What kind of cranking will you be doig with it? Looking for an all around CB rod? Or something for deep divers? Just wondering is all, since it makes a difference in the suggestions you will get. Tight lines, keep safe and good luck.

Falcon Cara Deep Runner is awesome but over your budget. They make a Lowrider Deep Runner now that should be close to what you want to spend.

I'm more of a swimbait guy, so I didn't want to invest a ton either. I bought the Academy Ethos Composite Cranker & could not be happier. I liked it so much, I bought another one for bladed jigs. Last I looked they were being closed out.
Less gritchin', more fishin'

You don't need an expensive rod for crankbait fishing. Sensitivity is not an issue as it is in soft plastics. For example, some people swear by fiberglass or composite rods for crankbaits. Something in the $40-$80 range would be plenty good. Catch a $100 rod on sale and you're set.

Deepest will be 12ft-15ft. May run a square bill time to time.

In that case, I would go with a MH fast tipped 4 power rod, or even a 3, but that might be a little light. You want the backbone so it doesn't tire you out and you want the fast tip for fish control. Some would recommend a composite or glass rod, but I prefer to KNOW what my CB is doing, going from silt to sand to gravel to chunk rock, etc.. I believe that sensitivity DOES matter on a good quality CB rod. I have the Dobyns 734 Chmapion rod that would suit you pretty well but that is out of your price range. I would take a look at the Dobyns FURY lineup, looking for a 7' or 7'3" rod for an all purpose medium to light diving CB rod. They have a CB rod that is a 705, but it is rated for all CBs, not just the ones you mentioned. It can also throw a lipless CB, too. I would not go with teh deep diver rods, as you would get overkill on thoe. The BEST rod for that application I have run across is the St. Croix Avid 70MHF that was great, but that is out of your price range.. A composite rod will work, but I prefer to back up on my drag so a 3# LMB can pull drag and let the fish play itself out. If you set the hook VERY quickly, a composite would be the way to go. Otherwise a moderate or medium rod would be better than a MH rod. Here is a St. Croix that fits your needs BXC71MHF with plenty so spare. I like longer rods when possible, so the Dobyns Fury 734C or the 705CB rod would probably make the most sense. Hope this helps. If not, let me know and I will try to get a little more indepth with it. I am using an Ethose 7'6" H rod for medium to shallow running CBs now and it works fine. It is graphite and not composite, too. See abovecomments on that situation. Let me know if I can help further. Here is as close to the Avid as I can get, it is a Premeir rod but it is designed for CBs. PC70MM After looking at the attributes of the Dobyns Fury CB rod, (705CB) I think it would fit very nicely, since it goes from 1/4 oz to 1 ox. Just something to think about. Tight lines, keep safe and good luck.

Thanks for all the info that's exactly what I was looking for I'm leaning hard towards the Dobyns (705cb) I did forget to mention I will throw lipless as well.

Great question! Over the past several seasons I have basically shifted the way I fish to where I almost exclusively throw crankbaits. I haven't thrown a t-rigged anything all year. I have Champion Series Dobyns rods from a 635 out to an 805 in their CB line and CB glass.
For the depth you describe you would be in the Strike King 3XD to 5XD depth range + squarebills, or if you fish another brand, I'm guessing in the 1/2 to 3/4 ounce range of bait. I would say without question you want the 704CB and you can get it right now for under $195 shipped from tacklewarehouse, another 10% off if you are a veteran, no sales tax. Slightly out of your price range but it is a killer rod for what you want to do.
705CB is too much rod for you for 12-15 foot divers and squarebills. Getting to 12-15 feet you don't need anything more than a medium/4 power rod. You can go up to a 5 power but I don't like throwing 1.5 squarebills and 3xd sized crankbaits on a 5 power rod, but that's my preference.
**Just saw your other post...the 704CB I have is also my go to lipless rod for 1/2 oz lipless cranks. I use my 705CB for 3/4 and 1 oz traps.
Best of luck in whatever you decide to do.
