Looking for an opinion.
I've been fishing crappie almost daily for about a month now. I've tried and tested 4 different lines as listed below:
Suffix Elite Hi-Vis Yellow 8 lb
Stren Superknot Clear 8 lb
Mr Crappie Hivis 4 lb
Trilene XL Smooth 6 lb

I liked the Suffix but it was on the reel for a long time and had too much memory so I changed it.
I hated the Stren and Mr Crappie line. Every time I got even slightly snagged it would snap the line. And no, it was not the knot as the line snapped way above the knot.
Trilene I haven't used much but like it so far.

I was talking to a guy out at the boat and he asked me what kind of line I was using and when I told him he told me he's using braid 30 lb test and rarely loses jigs, maybe one or two a week tops.
So, for those of you crappie brush pile fisherman, what do you use? Do you like braid as your main line, or do you like mono?

Wow....you guys are serious!!!!! There is a lot of crappy crappie line!!!!

If you like Suffix Elite, then you'll probably love 6lb. Suffix Siege in tangerine. Make sure and get tangerine because the color DOES make a difference. The Suffix Siege clear is horrible in my opinion, not nearly as supple as the tangerine, and tangles a lot easier.

60 lb. braid ,30 lb. fl,leader.

I mainly fish brush piles so that's why braid was looking like an option. Thanks all for the suggestions

I have seen the time you could use a 3/16" welding rod on the end of your line to prevent getting hung and catch fish right and left ..... THEN I have seen times when any line over 10# and you get skunked!
I never use anything over #10 low vis just in case it is one of those days!

You are going to lose jigs crappie fishing. Using heavy braid will disturb the spot when you are pulling up the brush trying to get your jigs back. Loosing jigs is just a part of it...

Never used high vis on my jig poles,pretty much use 8# yr round though
Makes good knots and breaks about right on the hand pull.

We used to pretty much use just that. We would cut the straight part if a metal coat hanger off, bend a small "loop" and attach a barrel swivel on one end and a snap swivel on the other end. Tie our line to the barrel swivel and attach a gold Aberdeen hook to the snap swivel. We fished in flooded cedars and salt cedars with minnows and caught lots of fish. The hanger allowed you to lower the minnow down ito the thick part of the tree and bring it back up without hanging up.

I haven't thought about that in a long long time! Good memories fishing a "coat hanger" overnight on Ute Lake, New Mexico!

Picked up a spool of 300 yards power pro 20lb braid today for $10 at Academy on sale to test out braid.

Folks still do it,nothing has changed other then more distractions of other better ways.
Like common sense,traditions are very rare

Pic looks like a brass rod, but we used to use a welding rod and brushed the flux off and beat the ends flat just like this.
