What is the best line for a spinning reel. Having lots of issues, have used mono and fluorocarbon and the line seems to have to much memory and comes off spool prior to bell closing. Thanx for any input.

I'm happy with Stren mono. Don't overfill, wind the line on under some tension, and make sure the spool of line is facing the right way when you're winding it on. I've tried fluoro and didn't like it. I tried braid and it does not cast nearly as far.

Braid was actually made for spinning reels...........You can start a spool with mono and then tie braid on to it. If you spool up all braid, you'll never use it all and that's a waist. It's up to you how much braid you want to spool up. My 2 cents

.

What line is your reel rated for and what line lb test are you using ?

Too high a pound test for a given diameter spool will cause mono to "spring" off the spool.

This ^^^ is what I do. Having the mono on the spool underneath also helps keep the braid from pulling into itself in the spool.

Agree with this, except prefer Trilene to Stren. Also - you can easily tie a few feet of fluoro leader onto the mono, which makes the expensive spool of 100% fluoro last a lot longer than spooling the whole reel with it. I usually use a double surgeon's knot for the mono to fluoro connection.

Over filling is the problem, nothing to do with line test
You have to keep it inside the spool transition
Works the same with braid too, overfill it and it will fall off too

Try putting 20 pound mono on a 1000 class spinning reel, or 10 pound mono on a 500 class ultralight and then get back to me ..even if it's "inside the spool transistion"
