When I lived in the Montrose area of the Inner loop area of Houston, the big snails like the ones in restaurants would come out after a rain. I never gathered them but they looked identical to ones I saw in Catalonia being gathered by locals after a late summer rain. The Catalonians would put them in boxes with damp towels for a time, days, so that the snail would purge itself then they would cook them.

I think they're everywhere around small creeks, streams but since i just move here from californiai dont know what area is restricted or private property. There are so many open fields here in texas. Snail i saw on a youtube clip is about 1-2in in diameter and the shell is dark. I have eaten the same type over in vienam and if you could get past the "snail" term, they are good. Thank you for the respond.

I lived pretty close to the Allen Parkway green belt that runs along buffalo bayou. As far as I understand it, these snails I saw that closely resemble the ones being gathered in Spain for the table are an invasive, non-native species and it's hard to imagine anyone in a public park objecting to you gathering a few for personal use. But people object to all kinds of relatively benign behavior so you never know.

Sometimes, you can find chanterelles mushrooms in the same places. If you like gathering, chanterelles are an easy to identify hard to confuse with toxic species delicious mushroom that might be good with the snails.

The biggest snails I've ever seen were in the Florida Everglades.
