Alright guys,
I'm do for a new sonar and have absolutely no idea which one to go with and if they will meet my needs.

The two manufactures I'm looking at are the Garmin and Lowrance.

What I'd like: side scan, great map (of costal and central Texas lakes), Chirp, side scan, and down scan.

Where I fish. Lake Belton, Lake Stillhouse, lake Waco, and Port O'Connor.

Garmin Echomap Chirp 73SV looks good but concerned if it will have maps of the above lake and doesn't have SD card capabilities.

Lowrance HDS 7 Gen III is another one I'm looking at.

For those of ya'll that fish salt and inland, especially these two lakes, if you have experience with these can you please help with PROS AND CONS.

Thank Ya'll

You probably should see what Navionics cards have those lakes on them and see if they have them for both units.

Garmin is not compatible with Navionics. It's not a Navionics issue, it's Garmin.

Ok so correct Garmin is not compatible w/ navionics. However, I did find that the inland lakes are already downloaded in HD and MAX HD (for the right price) for the lakes.

Now curious about the units and which is better.

OK It is now time for you to go to a store where they are sold and look at them to see which you like best.

I'm a saltwater guy but I've used both the Garmin unit and the Lowrance on friends boats.
The units are comparable when it comes to fish finding capabilities. My buddy who had the Garmin had a through hull transducer which was nice because it got a clear reading even when the boat was on plane.
Regarding charts, I'm sure that Garmin and Navionics have most major lakes covered but if they don't Navionics Sonar Charts feature allows you to map the area yourself.

Garmin has a version of Sonar Charts also called Quick Draw.
Humminbird also has a version of it called Auto Chart.

I wasn't aware that Humminbird has a charting program. That's cool!
I ran an 1198 on my boat for years and loved it except the chart that came with it was so basic that when I got my new unit I bought the navionics card.
Thanks for the info!
