Well I didn't drown, and I didn't finish last, in fact out of 10 guys in my age group I finished 2nd! I think overall I finished 7th out of 60 something people (men & women). My goal was to finish under an hour & twenty minutes and I crushed that pretty good so I'm happy. Talking to my MIL's boyfried Saturday night, he informed me when he lived in Hawaii back in the 80's he was a swim coach, and used to do all that kind of stuff, now he just rides. Said "when you're ready to get serious, just holler" so it looks like I might be getting some help there. The adrenaline is crazy, only slip ups I had were throwing a leg over the bike before the line, then having to pull it back over and keep running, then taking my gel I was saving for the end of the ride within the first mile of being on the bike, oh well... I took one of those Roctane's before the swim, so I was wired by the end of the ride, which might've caused me to forget where the run left out from T2 and I had to ask . 0:05:58.8 - 400 Yard Swim 0:01:46.6 - T1 0:35:02.3 - 12 Mile Ride 0:01:21.0 - T2 0:25:06.0 - 5K Run 1:09:15.0 - Total Time

Awesome man! It is addicting! I did one last October and have the itch to do a few more. I am considering signing up for the half Ironman in Austin at the end of October.

Good job...
The swimming I could/would do if I trained. The biking I could/would do... The running would get to me...knees and lower back don't like hitting pavement.

I bet the Lazy River Swim was fun, I bet you felt like you were flying!! I've always wanted to swim a lazy river, but too many people in there being lazy. LOL!
Nice run time too! You been saving that?

...------ That's pretty much me. I was a excellent runner in my grade school days, district champ at the mile. Put on a few lbs, and it's a little different now. I got rid of the athletic looking tennis shoes, and got into some of those super thick soled Hoka One One Bondi 5's, and just kind of glide through the run, their super comfy. I'm not out to set any records, but if I get faster than so be it. My goal is to not have to stop or walk in a run. Whatever pace I start I want to keep it throughout the run. I bet the Lazy River Swim was fun, I bet you felt like you were flying!! I've always wanted to swim a lazy river, but too many people in there being lazy. LOL!
Nice run time too! You been saving that? They said this was the first year they turned it on and that they didn't have it cranked up, but you could for sure tell it was on, they also had the waterfalls, fountains, and everything else on spraying you so it was fun. The first few out freaking flew. On the run, I was so amped up, I never even noticed funny feeling legs, I just knew the pace I was aiming to beat and I did. Most of the last mile or so was nearly all up hill, and the last 200 or so yards was a big climb, it made for a great finish line.

No shame in the Run and Walk Method....I recently found out it's been around for a while and highly recommended. http://www.jeffgalloway.com/training/run-walk/My intention on my marathon was not go out too fast to crash....and not walk. Around mile 20, I was coming up on people running and walking. They would darn near sprint, then walk, and repeat. I was thinking how horrible that must be....lol. BUT then I read about this and realize there will be a day I might do the same. I am looking at a 50k Trail Run September 23rd, and I imagine I will be walking some. I've been practicing it a few times last long run when I'm going too fast for a targeted pace. My wife ran a 5k with her friend a few years ago, before I started running again. She said there was this old man who would fly past them and stop....wait long enough for them to catch up, then sprint again. LOL....it still cracks me up. They wanted to beat him so bad. Like the Turtle and the Rabbit.

Congrats. Wish I could float and run. I sink and my knees can't take even a short run.

my knees can't take even a short run. I can't go lift 300 lbs on a weight bench either. Start slow and build those joints up slowly. It really takes years to develop the body to run all the time. Runners aren't born overnight. It's probably the most gradual sport there is....minus skateboarding! I did that for many years and still sucked.

Thanks guys, it was alot of fun, really just to push your body right up to its threshold in 3 different sports was an experience and feeling like no other. I wouldn't say I'm addicted yet, but I want to try another. I found one in Lubbock next month, maybe if the calendar allows it, maybe??? Realistically, from this one, it looks like the run is where I aim to gain the most, from the overall winner, my swim was exactly 1 minute slower, my ride less than 3 minutes, but the run was a hair over 4 minutes slower, and my transitions, they were quite a bit slower. I never practiced those, just ran thought it in my head so.... Time to get that 5K closer to 20min.

BUT you must survive the swim with a little energy to get to the dough part! Make swimming second nature...that's my goal.

I'm with you...I enjoy pushing my limits. I've always been that way....but only with things I have control over. I keep running longer distance just to find the breaking point that I say...NO MORE! Crazy huh! I never said I was sane.

Those Hoka One One shoes are great- they have really helped cut down the foot pain I used to get the day after long runs.
