If dude can't cook, a pellet smokers is the best option for him. I enjoy managing the fire, and all things involved in actually smoking meat. Just my opinion. It all depends on one's skill level. What their goal is. Are they using whatever for just for ease. Many factors play into it.

I don't know how I got to be this old without owning a BGE. Homemade fajitas last night. Tonight, slow cooked BBQ chicken.
He is truly a sick individual.

Hands down, without a doubt, you can't even argue it, the best smoker ever is the free one my buddy gave me because it was too big for his needs.

I bought a New Braunsfel offset smoker 25 years ago. It started out fine but thru the years I have made many changes to it. Welded it all up so firebox, smokepit and legs are all one piece, no more wobble. Added lower shelf to legs, added second shelf in smokepit and closed off half of the hole between firebox and smokepit. Added firebricks and increased smokestack to 4" pipe with old flue damper to regulate flow. Now it is easy to control the temp and smoke density and it'll hold six smaller briskets on two shelves or four larger brisket.
It's so heavy now that I have to heat it up with my pear burner after lighting the starter charcoal pile but once warm a small fire will do just fine. It holds 200 degrees easily.
Best home pit I've ever cooked over.
Cast I have a short attention spa

I've tasted a lot of bad bbq off pellet smokers.
I would go with a Big Green Egg, a Ugly Drum, or a file cabinet.

What their goal is. Are they using whatever for just for ease. Many factors play into it. He can't even cook a hard boiled egg. He thinks smoking is as easy as putting meat in and sometime later take it out and it's perfect. As I mentioned, he has no idea how to select and buy meat, has no idea about rubs, no idea about cook and meat temps. He's just trying to one up me. I have a Brinkman Trailmaster Limited I bought from Home Depot for $299. It's year number four for that smoker and it's still going good and producing tender juicy briskets and ribs.

A good offset wood burning smoker can't be beat, but each one has its benefits. I cook mainly on a drum smoker, but I'm about to get a pellet grill myself for weekday smoking just so I don't have to mess with a fire and all that other stuff.

I cooked a brisket yesterday in my Masterbuilt, worked pretty good. I also used one of those pellet tubes you light and set inside. Seems like it helps with additional smoke which was lacking last time I used it. Danged if it didn't bark up and look like it was smoked in a real pit.
I wasn't a fan of electric smokers, but with the addition of pellets in the smoking tube it seems to work really good. it was was good an any I've cooked before.
Thanks, Billy
