Hi,
Im taking a trip to south padre island in august and will be taking my kayak. This will be a first for me and my family. Is August a good time to catch reds and trout. I will be using a popping cork. And also, what area should i try around there.

Thanks smile

If you think you need a cork the mauler type is more effective than a popping cork.

Floating grass will wad up on a popping cork in seconds.

You might also consider a Red Fish Magic spinner bait, and some Berkeley Jerk Shad rigged on a Owners twist lock hook. Both can be worked shallow, out of the weeds in the flats to tailing reds.

Look for sand saucers in the weeds and weed/sand lines.

Have fun! Let us know how it goes.
