Heat is a factor,but too much heat would kill the bug that makes the grain ripe with stink.

I would be willing to bet that the reason you felt bad was from methanol inhalation and/or absorption (through the skin). Methanol is produced during fermentation along with ethanol (what gets you drunk). More methanol is produced when fermentation conditions are less than adequate. It is also highly poisonous, causes headache and nausea. Use gloves when you handle any fermented grain and try not to inhale any fumes. Safety first, then teamwork!
