The comments on MK on FB are brutal. Yeah, it seems like they are all talking about older TM's and other versions. Not Ultrex. I've seen them operate and have run them. They work great. Far better than Ultera or Xi5 in both spot lock and steering IMHO.

My Xi5 is perfect for me. Sits on brush pile, very fast and handheld easy to operate. I believe most that complain about anchor feature have user error. They are trying to set it while still moving to fast after throwing the marker bouy. The GPS needs to find the 5 closest satellites to anchor. If moving to fast it will set the first 5 it sees and they may not be in equal proximity which will make the motor constantly have to hunt for the center as you drift and the center of them could very likely be several feet off of true center. Go back to the bouy and set when sitting over it, not still moving, and you will be pleased with the results.

But i will say if you spot lock while moving forward. You will wonder back and forth . If you set it while stopped and at a drift.it will lock on and not wounder aback and forth,

I will add that in the video the Minn Kota boat was not moving at a rate of speed that the MotorGuide boat was. The test is not as accurate as it could have or should have been. I ran the Xi5 for a year and recently added the Ultrex. The Xi5 held me tremendously in that as stated "do not hit the anchor button while moving forward at a fast paste". Even Minn Kota will wander around at first if setting the anchor at a fast pace. Always get yourself positioned and then hit the anchor. You will achieve a much better reaction time and positioning doing so. Even if you have your motor linked to the graph "weather it be either brand" (i.e) Humminbird/Minn Kota or Lowrance/MotorGuide), the motor is controlling the speed required to put you on spot and hold you with out coming in at a fast pace causing the motor to wander.
Again, I liked the MotorGuide Xi5 as well as I like my Minn Kota Ultrex.
Now the main reason for me switching to the Minn Kota Ultrex over my MotorGuide Xi5 that was doing very well holding me to my spot is that I fish timber certain times of the year. I like to fish a field of timber hitting as many trees/stumps as possible in any given hour. I was finding this to be possible utilizing the remote with my MotorGuide Xi5 however, I was not as productive in fishing the timber with it as I was with my Minn Kota Fortrex before the MotorGuide Xi5. So here comes the Minn Kota Ultrex which has allowed for me to be able to enjoy the anchor feature when fishing open water - brush piles, submerged timber, rocks and lay downs as well as power fish the timber as I like utilizing the cable steer assist foot pedal.....
"it has been the best trolling motor on the planet for me" and linked with my Humminbird graphs and LakeMaster Charts it has changed the way I fish. When I get to go.....

"Always get yourself positioned and then hit the anchor" Put out a buoy, I try and put mine about 20' directly upwind from where I want to anchor, move the boat back over the brush pile very slow facing into the wind, and facing your buoy with the bow of the boat. Hit lock, done deal. Mine Terrova is about 2 years old and works really good. It does seem to work best in a breeze...

I really like the versatility of my Ultrex. I like to go to waypoint feature. I like the jog feature. Spotlock is getting better and better the more I tinker with it. First Calibrated it correctly. Then I'm running -2 on Boatscale. That fits my boat. I was on +1 then 0 then -1 now -2. Bingo. 2-3' circle.
The foot steering is very easy and very quick responding just like a Fortrex on easier. Running the Helix side image cable was a snap. Very satisfied with it.

Do you even need a buoy if you have a waypoint marked?
Just position the boat on the way point and set the spot lock.

Just position the boat on the way point and set the spot lock. No you do not truly need to have a buoy market set. I use one just as a reference as to where I got bit or where I am feeling structure in relation to the boat. And when I jog.

Just position the boat on the way point and set the spot lock. I throw one to be amazed. All joking aside. I really have been throwing one out while fine tuning. Truthfully I probably always will but it will become less necessary once my confidence increases in the Ultrex.
