When do you add scent or any type of attractant to your jigs? What is your go to scent or attractant?
I have been using the kodiak brand freeze dried shad paste for years, but I know a lot of guys who use the Berkley crappie nibbles. Just wondering what y'all thoughts are?

If I am jigging with plastics I will dip the tail of my plastic in Chartreuse Spike It. It's all I use.
I dip it and let it dry 30 seconds and start fishing.
I won't dip it again for the rest of the day because it is that strong.

You can get clear or pink or whatever color you like. We like the Chartreuse.

Some like Slab Slobber.

We will sometimes use nibbles too, but mainly just the Spike It.

I'm a fan of crappie nibbles. Usually just use chromaglow chartreuse but I have some white as well. Haven't used them much lately because I really haven't needed to. If the bite is slow or if I'm searching new areas I will hook one on. I like them because they are easy to use, don't stink up your hands or the boat, and don't stain things if you spill them. I thought of trying the spike it but I'd be terrified of spilling it.

I use nibbles only when the bite is slow. Most of the time they are not needed.

Slab slobber is made with real shad oil from real shad.
I use it every time, all the time.

I bought a spike it marker (with garlic scent) cause I didn't want to spill like MIles said.

I've never had the nibbles turn a bad day into a good day. With shiners only $4-$5 per 1/4lb, I'd rather tip with a shiner. I'll start off with a bare jig and just go from there.

Scent never hurts and sometimes it helps. I add shad or garlic in the baits I pour. I'm having great success on those baits and I do not have to add scent it is already in the bait. If nothing else it will help mask human odor.

They never hurt. Donald Harper makes a very good line of scent.

I rinse my hands in the lake and then add a couple of drops of BH shad scent on my finger tips while I am waiting on my graphs to boot up.

After preparing the boat for launch there is no telling what is on your hands which inevitably get on your baits.

Berkley Power Eggs. Not saying they are magic, but they usually stay on the hook until you are ready to replace them with a fresh one, unlike nibbles.

I am a fan of Crappie nibbles and believe they do make a big difference. I never use a jig without them. Also another tip is to rub your jig along the sides of a crappie just before you release them. Don't do it long enough to harm the fish's slim protection, just gentle enough to put the natural fish scent on your jig. Of the spray on scents or gels, the best I have ever found is Malcombs Slab Slobber. You have to order from their website, but it is well worth it. I recently have been tutoring my wife as she is weaning away from minnows into jig fishing with me. She does very well adding the Slab Slobber as well. Almost fearing how good she's gonna get at this!

I don't like any of that stuff. It smells bad.

I have found that good presentation and awareness will get you farther and fill your bait well faster than anything out there. Plus most that stuff stinks and has all kinds of chemicals to preserve it.

I use Megastrike original formula.

Tried soft plastics with & without and it just produced more crappie for me. I don't think anyone else on the Forum uses it in the crappie section, it's pretty popular in the Bass section.

Apply a small amount to soft plastic one time & it will last the rest of the trip. No need to reapply.
