I watched a video on team catfish dead red blood spray on how to revitalize frozen shad with the spray by marinadeing it in a zip lock bag and was wondering have any of y'all done this and had good success with it .And also does it make the thawed out shad just as good as if you were to put on a peice of fresh shad ?

Fresh is Best! Have caught em all with fresh bait sprayed with Dead Red. If im going too freeze bait. I make sure and brine it first. Never have added anything too it. Not fresh, but it'll get me fishing in the colder months. When fresh bait is harder too catch.
I'd Tack That!!

I've never used frozen bait but I have used it with good chunky baits that I reuse in case I run out of good fresh bait, I have had success with it letting it sit in a small container. I always keep a bottle in the boat in case I need it.

I don't know about Shad & Dead Red. But Dave uses Dead Red & soaks either fresh chicken breast, fresh turkey breas, or Bar S wieners in Dead Red and hauls in Blues on jugs from dinks to small to medium to Big. I have not ask him, but I assume he cuts in chunks before marinating. Someone recently noted they Cajun inject it (with your preference, like a turkey), then cutting into pieces. I have two bottles of Dead Red set aside for future experiments. Nowadays, wieners have chicken & pork. The beef ones are higher cost. Dave said he uses the cheaper ones (Bar S brand). Dave has also been using my "Lynn's Catfish Calendar" for over 5 years now as to when he sets them out, mostly targeting the BC days. Dave also uses one of my tips referred to as Bleedover. In his recent post back in November 2016, titled "Meat Haul", he set jugs out on a ZIP night (Nov. 10th) preceding a BC day & came back the next morning (Nov. 11th) to rake in the haul & pull the jugs. He had out 20 jugs with 2 hooks each. He used chicken breast soaked in Dead Red spray. Out of a possible 40 fish max run, he had 32 on his jugs. Thats over a .750 batting average as to hits & holds. However, 4 got off before he got them in the boat. He released the Big Blue (biggest). And released 6 smaller ones. He did not say if they were under size or not. He kept 21, just over half of the possible haul. He gave up or lost 11 Cats. So, that's over a 50% keepers (brought home) of his possible max. I discuss Bleedover in the month of January in my 2017 printed "Hard Copy" wirebound edition of the Calendar (just released). The month of December features Dave's "Meat Haul" with the story & pics (my term *stics*), with a few items not shared in his post. Others are featured *stics* from April thru November. Some of those feature water body records with their certificates (October) to first big Cat catches (August). And 1 really big Gator Gar catch (June). And the current Lake Limestone record Blue (September). And February & March have more special tips on the Calendar, such as KEYS & Percentages (Feb) and Roam-Feed Circuit & Baits. Here is the post by Dave back on November 14th, 2016 ... < http://texasfishingforum.com/forums/ubbthreads.php/topics/11941303/> I would say, try it out on the shad & see if you do any good.

I have used DR and caught fish- And I have used it and not got a bite- I try to increase my odds whenever I fish, but if my bottle runs out I don't stop fishing- Not sure how much it really works, but it adds another possibility to get bit-
What has happed to you does not define who you are-
HOW you react to what happens to you DOES!

It soaks into the bait like a sponge then releases it in the water as an attractant.... When you soak it overnight and get ready to fish cut the corner of your baggie and drain the excess back into the bottle Your not wasting any..... It only cost ya about 4 dollars to try it....
If it ain't broke don't fix it...but go ahead and work on it anyway.....

Just speaking from personal experience hombre. I'm not a "licensed professional guide" but I've been catfishin a long time, annnnnd have caught a fish here and there before. I've tried 127 different ways to save Shad and no matter what, fresh shad out fishes frozen 10 or 12 to 1 in my experience. I've caught one or two big fish in my life, and none of them ever came off a frozen piece of shad. I'm friends with some "licensed professional guides" also, who wouldn't give you a high five for frozen Shad. Along with friends who aren't guides that put thousands of pounds of fish in the boat every year, that will tell you the same thing. I was just tryin to help the OP with good information. So I guess what I'm sayin is- good for the guides that you know? lol And just fyi- All it takes to be a "professional licensed guide" in Texas in $150 at Walmart for a license. Nothing will make frozen shad good lol. Just avoid the heartache lol. I personally know Texas licensed professional guides that freeze big shad in the winter time and catch world class catfish on them year after year.

If it doesn't make frozen bait Better does it at least make you able to reuse fresh bait?

I buy a gallon of 100% Menhaden Oil from time to time . I use this to INJECT my soft plastics and various baits for use in Saltwater. Feed stores may carry syringes etc. I use a 14ga. needle due to the fact this oil is on the thick side. Has a great smell, lasts long, attracts fish, can create a nice smelly "slick" too. A gallon goes a LONG way. I also use a needle to poke my soft plastics to assist in soaking up the oil when placed in a zip lock bag (marianating) . The oil may run about $30 a gallon plus shipping cost. Try Ebay or Amazon to find who has it. DON"T get the WHITE milky type oil.The oil is brown in color. Try it.......you'll like it.
