Hoping for some insight!

I am currently stationed in Wichita Falls but will be leaving in the next year. My wife wants to try and go to Abilene (Dyess AFB) for our next duty station. What is the fishing like in that area? And for those of you who live in Abilene is it a good place to live? Thanks for any input you can provide!

Go North to Ft Phantom Hill.....throw a white spinnerbait along the dam rip rap...especially, if it's windy..you can walk all the way around to the boat ramp area, as well......as far as living in Abilene....I'd pick a suburb.....Wylie...Clyde...Buffalo Gap...Hamby....IMO

I live about 40 min away from Abilene.

Lake Fort Phantom is decent. It stays pretty stained but I've had some big ones from that lake.

Lake Cisco, Lake Leon, Brownwood, O.H. Ivie, aren't too far from Abilene.

As far as living goes, just depends on the part of town. Just about like every other place.

Thank you for your service, and best of luck.

Lived in the area all my life, I agree with the suburbs being better places. In Abilene you have ft phantom and Kirby. Ft Phantom isn't bad and stays stained to muddy as previously mentioned. Kirby is usually loaded with people on the bank catfishing as it seems to be more geared towards that. Within an hour my favorites are Oak Creek, Leon and Coleman. Those three can have clarity up to 3-4' and you can fish any style you'd like at them

I used to catch some bass in the pond by the golf course when I lived there. It's between hole 8 and Texas drive.
It wasn't bad to take the kids to or a quick fix at lunch.

Oak creek is really starting to get good again. As far as Abilene goes it is growing. Lots of new homes being built. I am a realtor there. Shoot me a PM when you get close to heading that way.

Sounds good guys. Abilene is where the wife wants to go because she has fallen in love with Texas. I just want to make sure I don't go somewhere without any fishing!
