I was looking at a 2000 Ranger 175VS and was curious if anyone had any comments; good or bad, about the boat.
This one has a 115 on it and i am with it. Old, first rig etc so speed / engine size is not as important.

I asked for Hull ID and it starts with GFX which is a GILILEO Fiberglass Product. Cant find much on GILILEO Mfg

If you have any comments about the boat overall, and/or Gilileo please let me know
Thanks in advance

Mike

It's a 2000...if it is still fishing and in sellable condition, it's likely a good boat. Rangers are generally considered a well made boat. 17 years of use is rough in the looks, 17 years of non-use is terrible on anything mechanical. Look it over well and test it in the lake before you buy it.

Call Ranger on the hull number. Ranger builds their own boats.

I was on the Ranger factory team for 10 years and have been through the plant tour at least 6 times. The hulls are made from scratch by hand and the trailers are custom fabricated. Also all upholstery is made there. Ranger has always been great in the customer service department for questions on everything you need to know. FYI- They also will do complete hull refinish and complete make over. Just have to take it to Flippin, ARK. I have a friend that had a 1985 bass master classic hull refinished and interior replacement. Price was outstanding and looked showroom when done.

I have a 93' that I bought about 18 months ago and am completely happy. Boat is rock solid and everything works. There are a lot of older Rangers out there that are in good shape. I'd do it again in a heart beat.

I have a 98 17ft with a 115 Merc on it, it does the job for me. It was kept in great condition and everything works just as it should. I have had it a year and had a few comments on how clean it looks for an older Ranger. Solid boats.

Ranger has top notch customer service - even if it's a 30 year old boat. Call them and they can literally get you anything you need for the boat.

I have a 96 362XT with a 175 on it. It's a 17'10" boat with a 10" jackplate and it will move. You aren't going to win any races with a 115 but it will certainly get the job done.

I have a 96 461VS and it still runs great and looks great. Ranger is making new skins for the seats now. Great customer service.

I've owned three Rangers over the years and all were great boats. Still see one of them from time to time. I would not be afraid to buy a 17 year old Ranger provided it has been well-maintained. Those old Rangers were bulletproof.

Lots of things to check but take it to a reputable dealer and pay them $150 to look it over thoroughly. It will be money well spent in the long run.

Why do you say that? Do you know him? He has given tons of money to support children fishing programs, as well as promote fishing for every level of income. I hope he made a fortune due to the fact that he has brought fishing to everyone. Even 20 year old boats are great to fish out of.

Johnny Morris is a class act and a helluva business man and has been a wonderful promoter of the fishing industry. As for Ranger boats I had a 1994 374 and it did everything expected of it. My buddy still runs his 1990 350 2-3 times a week and he could definitely afford another boat. There are a lot of good boats out there but none hold their resale value like a Ranger. thumb
