Recently acquired a lakehouse. Who has experience with a catfish feeder on your dock. Pros and cons? Mostly for the kids and guest. I usually chase bass and crappie.

They attract and hold catfish and baitfish pretty well, we usually just buy the cheapest dog food we can find and use that. Only con we've had was when the lake came up during the floods a couple of years ago, had to replace the feeder mechanism and dig out all of the food that was left in the feeder. Other than that I would recommend putting one out there.

The only negative is you will attract fishermen as well as fish.
If you feed manually , do so at the same time each day ( dusk seems to work well)
catching a catfish out of a surface feeding school freaks out the
school and can shut down a feeding session.
The key is to hook one , and let it swim out of the school , then land it
on the backside of dock. Hard to coach kids to do this.

It is cheap entertainment to see a mass of feeding channel cat. My grandkids
love to feed the fish.
