We started out on some usual structure and brush piles. We would mark tons of fish and get excited. But soon realized that they were mostly small fish. It might be the same on your home lake. The bigger fish came on isolated timber. We had to fish a lot slower and more deliberate...and it was more painstaking, but that's where the better fish came from. Also they seem to like the smaller 16th ounce jig head. We went mostly old school today using Thermocline Lures's black emerald shiner (BES) and also a new one in pure orange. I think it resembles either a bream or a crawfish and they really love it.

It was nice seeing the screen light up with hundreds of fish. A very healthy fishery.

We also got to see another shad spawn. This is a picture of an egret convention on the shoreline where the shad were gathered even coming out of the water spawning.

GOOD FISHING!

Kinda makes you wonder if you could slip cork a jig or shiner around the spawning shad and catch crappie

Most of the time you can do that. Especially around the rocks. But you also run into sandies. eek

We went up there looking, but it was very shallow. Inches deep. cool
there were small black bass up there and we heard the sand bass came up later.
We fooled around there a bit and then went back to crappie fishing. lol

Shad must be spawning at Bardwell, as I saw sandies blowing then up in about a foot of water Sunday.

Funny you should ask.
Water clarity was weird. Kinda muddy in some spots, stained in others and downright clear in others.
We could see a mudline in some of the places. It was all over the place.
Yep, didn't get a pict of the orange jig cause we lost them all... or the fish ate 'em. cool

We kinda went old school with BES and black char, once we lost all the orange.

Post spawn pattern is pretty well State wide as it is every year this time
The shallow bite is over for keepers verses legals
We are on deep summer mode and finding alot of really nice fish 15-20FOW on small structure instead of bulk brush or Christmas trees piles
Deeper Summer is coming, start looking for them now as they stage up into that pattern

I'm finding the same thing on Lewisville. Brushpiles are loaded with little ones, and seems like the small baits are working better. Thanks for sharing.
