It's all about weight placement when fishing plastics. I had read that Dion Hibdon told someone about putting your weight (using sinkers with lie tie) ... on the shank of your hook after passing through head of bait ... it's belly weighting ...the sinker stays with the bait better making it fish reeds or punching grass, even through brush, easier.

If you put the weight on the shank of the hook, your bait is going to try to fall flat through the grass or brush. You want the bait falling nose first so it passes through easier.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding the technique here??

Sounds to me like a simple weighted swim bait hook.

Exactly but I wouldn't use that style for punching grass.

I saw video of him with a little bell sinker on his hook shank while fishing a super fluke. I do it sometimes to fish a fluke over submerged grass, but is a very light weight and am not punching grass.

Maybe the weight slides down and pulls it in backwards?
