When I pass on I want to go like my grandpa, in my sleep.. Not like the screaming folks in the car with him..

Nope , the hook was running parallel to the bone and nail and the hook bent almost straight so they could only move it at around under but if you look closely at the picture it was snugged up to my finger so that caused problems .They ended up making a bigger cut and just going for it. But hey atleast I got a tetanus shot to hold me over for 10 yrs.

Ouch.

Got hooked by one of them schoolies on a topwater last year in my thumb.

Went to ER, doc numbed it up and left to go find a kit. I pulled it out while he was gone.

1 hour in a slow ER and a little bit of lidocaine, bill was nearly $3000. Although I only had to pay around $600 with pretty good insurance.

Wife is an ER nurse. This time of year they see this often. Docs have never heard of the "trick" and when they are shown a youtube they ignore it/refuse to try it/they don't learn free techniques in med school. An easy surgery makes thousands for the docs and hospital. If you go to the ER expect to be cut on and billed accordingly. The "trick" works nearly every time. Sucks but it is true!

See you on the lake and have a great day!

My doctor heard of the "trick" and that is the kit he was looking for. They have a string with a handle that he uses to yank the hook out after deadening.

What I thought was interesting is he told me they could try 2 ways. One was to rotate the point through the skin and cut off barb and back it out and second was to yank it out. He said there is actually more risk for further damage by rotating point through. I would have thought yanking the barb back through could yield worse damage.

I had hooked myself before and have always been fortunate enough to push the hook all the way through and cut off the barb. I tried like crazy to do that but angle it was in I couldn't twist it enough.

I've been lucky enough to not have to do the line trick on myself yet. My wife was lucky enough that the first time I ever did it was on her! She didn't even know the hook was out when I did it. I think I was actually more scared doing it on her for the first time than she was, lol.
