You guys dragging a C-rig in real rip-rap should patent what ever weight style yall are using!! You might be able to get away with that in river rock, huge boulders, gravel, or sparse chunk rock..........but real rip-rap??? I would have to believe you would spend twice as much time re-rigging as you would fishing.

I am terrified to use a CRIG on riprap. I go with a Shakyhead or a crankbait. Seems like 9/10 bites come right on the bank or 30 feet off the bank. Rarely anywhere in between.

There want be any rip-rap on the contour which is out away from the RAP. I use the contours to locate the sections of the rip-rap that the fish will be using coming and going. I will use a 3/4 oz. Football jig where the rip-rap meats the dirt. This is where I usually find them staging and waiting to move up to push bait against the rocks. About the only thing that I use to fish the rip-rap with shallow is the Spook.

Even in 20 ft of water, I use as light of a Crig as the wind will allow. That is usually a 1/8 oz. if no wind and 1/2 oz on a windy day. The light rigs just do not hang up. I never keep a tight line unless dragging it a few feet and always stripping line; so a lot of line is out while drifting and etc.. When following a contour the boat goes in and out on that contour. I take up the slack when the boat changes direction to shorten that distance of out line; then right back to short movements and stripping line again.

Crankbait/ squarebill are hard to beat. What I've learned in the past few months if water clarity is better than 3ft a jerkbait will catch tons of fish on rip rap. Get a shiny threadfin shad pattern and figure out what speed the fish want it.
Thanking the lord for another day on the water

Key to dragging a c-rig (or any other bottom lure) in rip rap is keeping in constant contact with the lure/weight. Don't let any extra slack in the line and you have less of a chance of the lure slipping down into the crags and getting hung. Don't get me wrong. You'll still loose plenty of rigs.
