I tend to agree if I know I'm in a lane. If I see a boat coming I try to give them enough room. BUT, a few pics of tx numbers of the boat making the wake can get someone a ticket.

Sounds good on paper, but in reality it not going to happen. Operator would just deny it and then it's your word against there.

Go to Lake Texoma go fish the bank outside Highport, there are cruisers 1/2 mile off who bring 4 feet swells all the way to the bank, Never heard or seen anyone get a ticket for that.

Or the folks doing that surfing behind the boat where they kick out the MONSTER wake and the surfer is real close to the back of the boat. There were 2 of those on Grapevine Saturday kicking out 3ft+ tall wakes back and forth all day. Those things are big enough to spear in a 20ft boat!

Happens all summer at Fork. Folks fish the humps and some of them are in clearly marked boat lanes. I stay on plane but slow to 40 or so. Don't slow down and plow thru. It makes a huge wake.

I prefer people to run by me wide open and throw as little wake as possible and I will do the same. I saw a guy complaining about people running past him 20 yards away while he was tied up to a tree, I mean what do you expect? My runs on Roberts have very specific start and end points, I am not shutting down until I know I'm in the clear unless it's absolutely necessary to avoid damage or injury.

^^ This^^ Shutting down just throws a bigger wake at me, just keep running and smile. It is annoying when a guy slows down and starts proposing right before they pass you or completely come off the throttle 30 yards before they pass you.

I"m in the "run by me" camp for two reasons: 1st, less wake than plowing. 2nd, it's a waste of time for the other boater to stop and idle by everyone they pass on a lake.

Found one of these surfer dude waves on Lewisville the other day! Out in the middle of the lake West of 35 and the wake boat was so far in front of me I thought I was easily in the clear. Almost air born on that one!!!! Scared the crud out of me!

See you on the lake and have a great day!

used to be an older couple in aluminum boat that crappie fished up cowikee creek on Eufaula (Al.)...creek was pretty wide and deep and most boats running up the creek do so up on plane....this particular woman would scream "slow down" at every boat that passed.....I ignored her for several years until one day her yelling struck a nerve and I spun my boat around and went back by her with nose in the air throwing off a 2 ft wave that damn near washed them up on the bank....turned around and came back by and asked her which did she prefer....me up on plane or slowed down.....she never answered but she never yelled at me again....

I agree that fishing in or near a boat lane is probably not the smartest thing to do, but at the end of the day, if you run on plane and either your wakes causes injury, or you something happens and you spin out and hit him, you will be the one liable. There are no highway road signs, and the unwritten rule of not fishing in a boat lane doesn't exist in a court of law. A small inconvenience is better than ruining not only someone else's life, but your own. No one on here fishes for big enough money or relies on cashing a tournament check for a living, to not slow down enough to make the situation safer.

I was probably at least 30 to 40 yards from him, it was the point just southeast of wolf island where the timber begins, I did not see him until I came out of the cove on pad, really nothing I could do, I did not feel it was dangerous for either of us, but he kept holding the number one sign up, I really wanted to turn around and go see what the finger was all about but my wife talked me out of it, probably better that I kept going. As far as being responsible for your wakes, good luck with that, I been washed up on the dam at Cedar Creek before from huge wake boat waves, Texoma is really bad, anyway I am sorry if I offended the guy, I bet he was'nt catching any fish so he was pissed to start with, lol.

I've heard about people getting tickets and being held liable for damage from their wakes. Not often but enough to know it does happen. If no one complains then nothing will be done.

A bass boat truly running on pad makes very little wake, on the other hand those that "think" they are doing others a favor by "plowing" at like 20-30 mph make a huge wake.
