Wait. 3 adults and 3 kids is not quite the same as six adults, and if it didn't exceed the boat weight rating, I'm not so sure I would pile on. The question to me would be, was it a wave or a wake that swamped them? Props to that family that all were wearing life jackets.

They are probably trying to do a spin on the story to put a positive light on the Toyota BassMaster to overshadow all the negative press it got last year on Ray Roberts and the disaster in Frisco.

If the boat was rated for it then can't pile on here, It's not smart but if it's legal then...shouldn't be judging really anyway. They were tied off and got swamped according to the article.

Wrong type of lake for that type of boat. They used to have similar problems at Ray Hubbard all the time.

We turned a jon boat over one night when I was a kid. If it wasn't for the people tied up near us we would have lost everything including the boat. I swam to shore. My brother swam around and gathered up everything that was floating. The boat was definitely overloaded and we did not have any life jackets on. That was on mothers day as well.
Stay out of jon boats on Mother's day.

I doubt that 16 foot boat was rated for that many bodies. My 21ft Ranger isn't even rated for that many people.

I'm sure it wasn't rated for that many passengers, but length isn't the be all end all for ratings. There are quite a few aluminum jon and v-bottom boats that are less than 20' that are rated for 5-8 passengers. But I highly doubt a 16' was rated for 6

I'm on the water every single moment I can be..... I've seen TONS of stupidity.....MEGATONS. Size and type of boat has zero to do with it.....in fact, the biggest idiots are usually in the biggest boats.
