all mine were dinks to, the community lake I fish have some really nice bass in it. a lot of 5-8+ lbers but there is a restriction on keeping bass so the little ones are over running it, cant seem to catch the big ones unless you use live bait. I was pitching a jig today with a fairly big craw trailer hoping to catch a decent fish and caught a 10 inch fish.

Yep. I caught one 2 pounder on Decker. My dad was bored screwing around using an 6' ultra light with 4 pound test throwing a plastic frog and he ended up hooking a lunker who immediately took his line back about 20 feet into the reeds. We drove the boat back there as far as we could and the line eventually broke.

but yeah. it was a pretty terrible day. 1 fish in 4 hours.

Well, actually--I did pretty good today on Joe Pool. I lost count, 12 to 15 I guess. Some small ones but some nice 1.5 - 2 lbs also. I had a really nice one break the line right at the boat.

It was a very subtle bite in the morning where I was. I wasn't feeling the bites, only seeing the line move (and I was using 20lb braid). They were all hugging timber in 4-11 fow next to deeper water

Then when the wind stopped and the clouds went away around 1pm; things got very tough

A few had moved out deep mid lake and caught one on a deep crank in 20fow

It's a transition time. Shad and blue gill spawn into early summer. There was no wind to position and group up the baitfish and shad

I caught around 50-60 Saturday on Joe Pool. Shad spawn between 7-8:30 was insane. Caught over 30 dinks in that hour and a half. Then when it died down, I went c rigging and caught some better fish. Best fish went a little over 9.
Sorry for the upside down pic.

I don't know why it does that....nor how to fix it.

Tough on us. My ole nemesis Ray Robert strikes again. A little activity early, then like fishing in a bathtub. No wind post cold front conditions. Ended with a few small ones, couple catfish, and a drum. Most of the water looked absolutely sterile.

Had a good day on Grapevine, tried to take advantage of the shad spawn first thing but you had to go through 15 to 20 Sandbass to catch one largemouth, and none of the largemouth I was able to catch there in the shad spawn were over 2 pounds so went to Plan B. Went to another area where the bass were pushing shad into a corner, sat there for 30 min rarely making more than three casts without a fish. There were lots of 10-12 inch bass there, but as I sat there and continued to work the school some two and three pounders showed up and I caught a bunch of em. Eased around the corner and had about a 2 lb smallie on for 2 jumps before she spit the bait then caught a 19.5" over largemouth. All of that action was on top water.... by the time I picked up the jig rod we already had close to 30 fish in the boat ( not counting sandbss ). Spent the rest of the day throwing a swim jig, Texas rig, and flipping jig... caught fish everywhere we stopped, literally at least one fish on every spot we went to for the rest of the day. Love me some Grapevine right now.

Shad spawn is most noticeable when Shad are running up on the bank in inches of water. The smaller fish are shallow too...waiting on the lunch ticket to swim out. The spawn is just that...Shad spawning. It isn't forced by predator fish. The predators are just there to eat. It's crazy and fast fishing while it lasts. When it's over for the day, it's over.

Easy way to find em is to look for Herons on the bank. They eat a bunch. I think one caught more than me.

Edit...Thanks for fixing my picture.

Yes sir, it was hard. Bait fish were down and as usual somebody always finds a big sack in tough conditions. Read it took 30l bs to win BLT. Weights fell fast after that meaning bite was a tough grind.
