So, it took several months but I finally got to take the new (to me) kayak and trailer out today for the first time. It took several weeks to strip the trailer down and re-build it, combined with several months of patience waiting for the right kayak deal to come along. I am still fine tuning the kayak saddles. They are kind of persnickety. The J-hook rack is for a 10 footer for the boy as soon as my finances recover. I should have bought shares in Elliot's Hardware before I started this rebuild. The good news, I am officially a kayaker now.

ZzzKing, Your set-up looks nice. I have 2 sets (8 pieces) of Yakima kayak saddles. You can have them if you want them. They are made to clamp onto a round Yakima cross bar. I cannot tell from your photos if your crossbars are round or not. They are much lower profile than the J-saddles; about 6 inches tall. Anyway, give me a call if you want to talk about them.

Stan, the crossbars are 1 1/4" galvanized schedule 40 pipe. I currently have a set of Yakima Deckhands in front and a set of Yakima Handrolls in the back. The issue I have right now is the handrolls tend to rotate on the pipe when I am shoving the yak forward or pulling it back. The deckhands seem to be fine so far.
