Just moved down to the Conroe area and haven't been able to get a solid pattern down for the life of me. Granted, I haven't had time to get out for more than about 2 hours at a time after work, but all I can seem to find is a dink here and there.
I have a buddy coming down this weekend to fish and would like to get him on some fish. Anyone have any tips they can share on what areas of the lake I need to be looking at or what patterns may be working. I'm not wanting anyones honey hole but any pointers would be greatly appreciated. P.S. I'm fishing out of an old jalopy bass tracker with no graphs so offshore fishing is a bit tough for me hammer.

If you want to put your buddy on some fish I would recommend not fishing Conroe. For my money it's the toughest lake in the state, particularly this time of year when the pleasure boaters are out in full force.

That said if you are hell bent on a bad time at Conroe, I'd try and minimize the damage by throwing weightless senko's under docks in deeper water around sunrise/sunset. The bridge is usually good for cranking up a few fish. Beyond that it's an offshore bite, but you have to put in your time finding brush piles and be willing to lose a lot of cranks in the process.

Conroe is tough. With your boat and the weekend traffic I'd stick to fishing marinas and shallow water up north. Downsize your lures and SLOW DOWN your presentation. Green Pumpkin Magic and Watermelon Red will get you bit. I put down everything but a 3/16 shakey head and a finesse worm last Tuesday and got 9 in a few hours. Go early before the pleasure boaters come out. OR you could fish Raven in Huntsville. Idle only. It'd fit your boat better.

Thanks for the responses! I looked into going elsewhere but with every other lake being an hour+ drive I figured Conroe would be our best bet. Sucks moving down here from east of Dallas where I had multiple world class lakes within an hours drive. Luckily, fishing docks/marinas is one of my favorite ways to catch fish so I think yalls suggestions will get me started off on the right foot.

Go launch up at Cagle and fish up there. With your boat you can get around up there in the jungle and north of the bridge.

This may not sound like it makes sense but for those who know it does... You can save the hour and a half drive each way and fish Conroe and be absolutely frustrated by not catching fish and having to deal with 1000 boats on the lake, or just get up early and make the drive to Fayette. Yes it is the weekend so there will be boats on Fayette but still plenty of places to fish. Even if you have not been there you will most likely catch fish. Just find some timber close to deeper water and throw a tequila shad Culprit worm. Or fish the reeds.

If I am taking someone fishing who wants to catch them I would go to Fayette every time. As Justin Wilson used to say.... "I guarantee"!

I've been fishing Conroe for about 10 years and still don't have them figured out lol, I've had luck fishing rocky banks and around bridges, or up north of 1097 bridge up in cable, find creek channels and humps. Hope this helps

Be the first one to fish the 1097 bridge and you will score. Fish paralell(?) to the rip rap using a chrome rattletrap ( blue back ) Cast as close to the rocks as you can. Also try the old railroad track just north of 1097 where it comes out from the forest. 10' +/- in the trees using worms. There are scattered brush piles in the area.

Make the extra drive and go to Somerville. You won't be disappointed that you drove an extra hour.

Thanks everyone for the advice! Hopefully we can get on a few. If not I'll take everyone else's advice and go elsewhere next time.
