 Big gill in DFW?

I have lived in DFW for about 20 years now and have never had luck getting in to big gill/sunfish except in untouched ponds (which you can't really find in the area anymore). Does anyone have a lake they could recommend to get into some bigger pan fish?

Just for a great day on a great lake, head down Chisholm Trail Toll Road, then go to Glen Rose and its little lake: Wheeler Branch.
No boats allowed but you can use a kayak, other vessels will no bilge areas that hold water.
For bank fishing bluegills, there is a fairly prominent point off toward the dam side from the boat ramp, I'd say about 100 yards or so. There are always quite a few right there and decent size.
The water is so clear, on sunny days you be able to see them.

Never fished in the Dallas area. A little ways down south you have the Brazos River. Great pan fish body of water!

Two off the wall suggestions: (1) White Rock Lake. In and around the reeds. West end of lake around the big boat ramp/cove. East end: the reeds around where the sailboats are moored. Fish basically the same spots where the crappie spawn in those reeds. Big bull 'gills, and with the first full moon of late spring/early summer, it should be on!
(2) Bachman Lake. Yes, Bachman. In the last two years, we have started to fill ice chests with large bull bluegills! Some of them look like copper nose hybrids. Have no idea where they came from or why suddenly we got a large influx of BIG gills, but who cares? They are there, and plentiful. With this full moon, i will go in search of them, and feel fully confident they will be there.
What to catch them on at either lake? Whatever your favorite 'gill bait is will work.
My personal choice is a 1/32 hollow body tube. UL gear, and let the fun begin!

Ray Roberts would be worth trying. If memory serves they stocked it with copper nose when the lake was new.

Last summer at Bachman, it was 8-10 inches on the gills, and at White Rock, have caught them that size during summer spawns for several years.

Not looking for a world record or anything. Just a spot to catch some that are worth bringing home. 7-10 inches instead of 3-4 inch bait stealers.

Bluegill are getting pretty active! You all should do pretty good!

The hard bottom sand flats in front of the cypress trees on the lower end of the lake is a usual big gill hotspot. The cypress trees run all along the big parking lot, to the Recreation Center. Last year, one day while slaying the gills with jigs, I caught a 22 inch channel cat and a 5 lb bass. Nice bonuses!!
One word of caution: The big bubble roots of the cypress trees have a little water under them, and are resting spots for big, but harmless water snakes, diamondback and banded. They won't harm you, but will scare the liquids out of you when you step and they make a grand production of uncoiling and slithering into the water!

Banker, I have been hitting a couple ponds in Las Colinas, where I usually catch 8-11 inch greenies, and maybe green/something hybrids, but have only caught 4-6 inchers so far. What I have been catching is some pretty nice longears, although not quite keepers. But they are knocking on that "take me home for dinner" size door! I figure with this full moon, the big girls will come out to play, both greenies, and the bluegills.

Hm. There was about a week, maybe last full moon actually, where I was getting 8-9" ones. It's all runts in my spots right now.

White Rock under the Mockingbird bridge has been a good spot for Gills. if you go around the road there are several spots that you can access and fish and there are many piers that you can fish off of. they are all close to the cattails and full of fish. if you fish under the bridge cast close to the columns they hold bigger fish.
I went last week with my son and caught a mess for a small fish fry.

I hit the sand flats in front of the cypress trees yesterday between 4:45 and 5:20 pm,at Bachman. Caught a ton of 3-6 inch green sunfish, couple of longears between 4-6 inches, 1 10 inch largemouth and one 7-8 inch bluegill. Kinda slow, very windy. Water fairly clear.
Red/chartreuse hollow body tube, 1/32 unpainted head. No bobber, just cast and retrieve very slowly.
