I've never fished it I know it looks pretty fishy... Are there any "must do" or "must fish" area's? We are going to have my boat and some kayaks and my wife and daughter aren't super into fishing (more into catching)if you know what I mean. I however am very into bass fishing and would like to make the most of the couple of day's there. I expect it to be very busy so what are the best ways to approach it without getting to bogged down doing my own thing? Thanks in advance!!

Find hydrilla lines near the boat lanes and fish them with a texas rigged junebug colored trick worm with light weight. Throw hollow body frogs around the same grass areas and lilly pads which should be up pretty good by then. Don't focus on the trees right now which is a mistake I think a lot of people make. There will be bass on them if there is grass right next to them though.
You may catch the bream pretty good off trees around that time too. I know some guys that caught a mess of them last weekend fishing trees with cork and crickets. Watch for wasp nests if you are fishing around the trees.
I think it is a very challenging lake because everything looks so good it is hard to know where to start. Try to cover a lot of water.
Make sure you don't transport any salvinia on your trailer. You will see how bad it is when you get out there. consider donating to the Greater Caddo Lake Association of Texas to help with fighting it.
Have fun!

AID map, look for Alligator Bayou, trail C. That is where we have had the best luck.

Must do? Especially with family that's not as much into fishing as you? Spend a little time sight seeing with them. From Uncertain Texas go up Government Ditch to Big Cypress Bayou which is the river that feeds Caddo. The salvinia is not near as bad up the river. Also take em for a beer and burger at Big Pines Lodge which is on Big Cypress about 1/2 way between Government Ditch and the State Park which is also on Big Cypress. You can tie up at their dock and walk right in. Good catfish too! For sightseeing the river is way better(to me). All this can be seen on Google Earth, AID map and all actually shows up on my Navionics mapping chip. Really don't have to have a map if you have GPS. Have fun!

State Park Boat ramp, all but one vehicle were wardens... This was not a normal day, however, I can assure you on a weekend like memorial, there will be 2-3 out cruising the river. I almost went to jail over boat registration on this lake years ago. Bought a brand new skeeter, dealer tags were only good for 10-14 days. When I bought my boat at the dealership I also paid for the Texas registration that can take up to 30 days to get back. I was a few days past the temporary tags but had not yet received paperwork from Austin. Even though I had receipts showing I paid the state for registration the warden made me load up the boat. This was the only time I have ever argued with a warden and I fought this tactfully until he threatened to take me to jail for refusing to get off the water.

As far as fishing, on memorial weekend it will be hard to fish the river with all the boat traffic. I have not been this year so I'm not sure about the salvania situation. Last year when I went it was hard to fish trees/pads around the tree islands on big lake due to it. Black with blue flake is my go to color for this lake.
I second what others suggested. Big Pines Lodge is a must for eating, a lot of history in that place. When old man George was alive it was the only place in Texas you could buy a gun while drinking a beer, while 4 state troopers were eating at a table 5 feet from you and not blink an eye. Best hush puppies in east texas.
For family, if they still do the steamboat tours on big lake it's worth every penny.

Stay off the main lanes and just fish where salvania isn't at on main lake. Lake really isn't bad on holiday weeekdn. Just keep clear of karnack river mostly....

You are also not fare from Lake O'Pine 30m drive from State Park to Brush Creek. If you launch from Brush Creek, there are some coves across the lake from BC that I would hit with minimal traffic. Wife and kids did good just throwing that watermelon lizard T rigged using a little spinning rods.

Gov Ditch is always a nice ride! We just got back from a 4 day trip to Caddo. The GS had took over all Our yearly bream spots. Crappie bite was extremely good at towhead on minnows and jigs 12FOW. We caught bream in Turtle Shell and Ames Springs on crickets.
