I am going to do something to my Old Smokey that may have not ever been tried. I got to looking at ways to cook Jerky...on a Pit or in a stove. Then I got to looking at electrical smokers. Have you figured it out yet? Well, I will attempt to add a heating element, and a power cord w/ temperature controller. Got a good deal on a New setup that's made for a certain electrical smoker...500 watt..which is plenty. If this all goes well...I have 40# of PitBoss Competition Blend Wood Pellets to go with it. I figure I would recoup the cost of the complete element shortly..i.e. I would not have to buy charcoal anymore. Hope it works.

Got my heating element today. Tomorrow I will cut the
rectangular hole in the lower sidewall of the Smoker, drill
2 holes and bolt it on. It will heat to 450* but I don't
intend to cook that hot !! I'm excited about this...I'm
sure it will be one of a kind.

Finished results with the extras I bought earlier.......Less "The Tube", the Wedgie, and rib rack. One of a Kind !! BTW..that's Amos, my Weenie Dog
BTW: What is NOT pictured (as yet) is my last modification. Another "heat shield" like the one below the heating element OR a Grate, will be placed above the heating element.Three or more empty vegetable cans will be placed upright around the element and the shield will be laid on top. I'll figure out the height at some point. The water tray and pellet container will be positioned on it.

Smoker held 225* great....Pellets did their work. Smoked a yard bird today..took 4 hrs. Learning lesson here. Bird turned out good....I think I will get some straight Apple pellets for birds. That's what they say to use. I put olive oil and some OLD Grill Chicken seasoning...no BBQ sauce for the last 30 minutes...should have , forgot !! I'm pleased with MY INVENTION until Houston hears about it!! Maybe I will get some Royalties if they start making them.
