Approx 4 months in our new house (technically not new), and I am 1,000,000,000% sure that we have some sort of ghost or sprit among us. Very friendly in nature I guess, but you wouldn't believe the amount of things that has happened.
We basically just moved from a 1 story to a big 2 story less than a mile from where we were. Now I am a 5 min walk to our kids school and back up to a beautiful greenbelt. This is a lot nicer house than we had before.
I had the keys for about a week before the big move in. Took my old Neighbor shane over along with my 6 year old to show him some things we were going to do. As we walked down the stairs I noticed my little girl was sitting on the fireplace talking into the center of the living room quietly. I asked her who she was talking to and it startled her. She acted like she didnt want to say, and then said she was talking to her doll. I was creeped out. So I show my buddy our bedroom and I notice on the floor of the threshhold something sitting there. It was exactly in the center of the doorway. A small cross lapel pin, and a pair of pearl earrings. They look like they are from the 50's or 60's. House is less than 10 years old. Ok, so even more creeped out.
Fast forward several months. A friend wants to borrow my truck on a sunday. Im driving a truck from the lot that I have never had at home before but I let him use it. When he brings it back his 9 year old son shows me something he found in the back seat. It was the cross and the earrings. The same ones that I have kept since we moved in stored away in one of those books that not actually a book its to hide things.
The dryer gets turned on in the middle of the night.
Doors and lights get opened and turned on when we leave.
The tankless water heater has been unplugged several times when my wife is taking a shower, and its always been when i have been home.
Lot's of strange sounds, footsteps, shower door closing in the middle of night.
One morning I went upstairs to wake up my twins my little girl was already awake at 7. She told me she had been awake for a while. I asked her about it and she said someone was talking to her in the bathroom.
Last night I get home and the family was out to dinner. Go in my bedroom and a plastic bag that was in our bathroom moved twice I could hear it.
Also last night I woke up at 4am. I had fallen asleep on the couch. I hear some noises and got the feeling that something had just walked all around me. I go into the bedroom and the wife is wide awake, something had just scared her in her sleep.

what's the history on the house? Any deaths?

Sorry Brian it was me. My lease was up on my apartment and they wanted too much for rent. So I decided to squat in the attic of your house. I saw you guys moving in, but decided not to leave. I'm trying to be as quite as I can. And the plastic bag....dude you only left me a small amount of shake and some seeds!

I'll give you exactly half of what you paid for the house and you can move somewhere else.

I've lived in one of those houses
It got to the point where there were so many eerie occurrences that I just started ignoring them
Things like books falling out of bookshelves, a seldom used door that was kept locked and was consistently found unlocked, endless rattling of plates, glasses, cups and the television turning on in the middle of the night
It's the only house I ever lived in where a previous owner showed up one day and asked me odd questions about living in the house

Check the history of the house but also check the history of the land. Was there a previous house on the land?
We had a ghost in our Fraternity house in college. The house was built at the turn of the 20th century and the ghost was the spinster sister of the guy that built the house. She helped raise several children and later died in the house. Our landlord told us about her before we moved in and said she would probably like having a house full of guys. She pretty much confined her activities to the kitchen, moving dishes around, and dining room, moving chairs around.
