Looking for input from those who have tried both. I'm looking for a good deep (15 - 30 ft) brushpile setup. Typically I like 10 to 12 ft rods in up to 15 ft of water. Once I start fishing deeper I like to drop back to 7 or 8.

What would you guys recommend?

Pro Angler is hard to beat. It as a little more back bone then Acc and you can order replacement tips for the PA Rods.

Yes, G-rods are nice but so are Cadallic's compared to a Ford.

For the money go with Pro Angler. You won't notice the difference in the fish you catch.

Ok, hold on a minute.

Great question.

ACC versus Pro Angler.
Coke versus Pepsi.
Dr. Pepper versus Mr. Pibb.
Republican or Democrat.

I know everyone on here has and is perfectly entitled to their own opinion when it comes to fishing rods or any other comparison like those above.

Everyone above so far has replied Pro Angler and I respect those opinions posted and the folks posting them.

Pro Anglers are indeed great Crappie Rods and Great Folks.
I do not have one negative thing to say about them. An absolutely Great Crappie Rod.

That being said, I would like to express my opinion on this issue.

For those that post Pro Angler can you also post whether or not you have actually fished with an ACC Crappie Stix. I think it's only fair that to answer the question you have actually fished with both.

I will take it Mark Standridge and Ernest Patty of whom I have the utmost respect for both of them have fished with both.

I have personally fished with both ACC and Pro Angler Rods.

When everyone says you can't go wrong with Pro Angler they speak the truth. A Great Crappie Rod and you can't go wrong with one.

It is my opinion though that I prefer the ACC Crappie Stix. I just personally prefer it over my Pro Anglers.

I landed a 35 pound yellow cat on Fork on a Crappie Jig with my ACC.
I was waiting for the rod to snap and it never did. I know there are similar stories with Pro Angler Rods,

You can buy Rod Tips from ACC just like Pro Angler.

In my opinion, the ACC has a great backbone and I have had no problem slinging 2 pound plus Crappie in the boat without a net. Just like you would with a cane pole or a Pro Angler.

ACC was started and is owned by Andy Lehman and he is a former Crappie Guide. He stopped guiding to run and grow his rod business Full Time.
If you have visited his site like many of you have then you will see about the only thing he has in stock is the Green 8 Footers. That is what I fish with, but many want a different size.

I am speculating, but I believe something happened in Andy's personal life for a short time that caused him to get behind the power curve with his stock. I just spoke to Andy the other day and he placed a massive order and he should have everything in stock any day in June. Starting June 1st I would literally check the web site daily to see if the rod length you want is in stock. He told me when the shipment shows up he is going to be super slammed getting stuff where it needs to go. He is getting a 5'6" rod in stock with this next shipment for dock shooting. He is discontinuing the Red Series Rod Line and is going to concentrate on the Green Series Rods and most likely will eventually be adding a couple heavy duty rods in the Green Line. He is hoping to get his rods into some local stores down here in Texas. He has a lot on his plate and he is working his tail off.

I ordered 4 more 8 foot Rods on Saturday and had them by Wednesday. I know they did not ship until Monday. If you place an order they usually go out same day if it is during a weekday and you place the order early in the day. All Rods are in a nice cloth carrying case with his logo on it. You won't be disappointed.

I also have G-Rods and like Ernest stated for the money you won't notice the difference in the fish you catch with an ACC or a Pro Angler. I can buy 3 ACC Rods for the price of 1 G-Rod.

Mark Standridge prefers Pro Angler over ACC and I respect his opinion.
My opinion is just the opposite of Mark's.

I can't wait for ACC to get his different lengths in stock because there are some fellow Anglers on the forum here that I highly respect that are wanting to try some of his rods in lengths different than the 8 Footers. I am looking forward to getting their opinion on the ACC's as well.

What I would really like is to blind fold an angler take them out to a very active brush pile and place a Pro Angler in their hands and let them sling Crappie in the boat for 15 minutes. I would then place an ACC in their hands and let them sling Crappie in the boat for 15 minutes the entire time while blind folded and see what they choose. I'd make them wear leather gloves too so they could not feel any characteristics of either rod that might lend a bias either way. I would be curious to see those unbiased results would be.

In the end you can't go wrong with either a Pro Angler or an ACC Crappie Stix they are both fantastic Crappie Rods.

Buy one of each and give them both a try. Money well spent no matter who you decide to go with.

Pro Angler 8 Footer is $51.
ACC 8 Footer is $55.99

Bottom line they both catch Crappie like no ones business.

Thanks for posting.

I have both and love both of them, but I prefer the ACC. It is lighter and the fit and finish look better.

I have both, broke the tip off both, and still fish both. I preferred the ACC over the Pro Angler when both were intact. I like the Pro Angler best of the two with missing tips. Go figure. I'll look into a new tip for the ACC as I really liked it when new.
FYI, both tips were broken by the trolling motor! blush

Hey Everyone,

I certainly appreciate all the feedback. Since Father's day is coming up and the girls will need ideas, I think I'll just get one of each;)

I'll report back once I have tried them out!

I wish someone in my family would see this for my Father's Day. I have ProAngler rods and love them. I also have St Croix rods and love them. I wouldn't mind trying an ACC 8'er.

ACC all the way. And yes my opinion is one sided. I have never had a reason to try any other rod. Only rod I stock at my bait shop. I seem to have a problem keeping them in. Everyone that fishes in my boat uses one and usually at some point buys one from us.

To add to HOGON's point...
It's also quite possible that both ACC and PA are using blanks manufactured exactly the same. All of these small companies producing rods are using blanks produced somewhere else by someone else. Eyes, paint, and finish are sometimes all that differentiates these rod. Food for thought...

It's the Chevy over Ford question, there are some great rods out there. There's not a rod out there that can fill what you're finger can if you have that line in your hand or on your finger. Just my thought

Excellent point Slabexpress.

Mark also another excellent point.

He's never called me Hogoff, but he had no problem rubbing it in when I lost big fish of the day at the boat on Tuesday.

I wanted to take a load off so I plopped down in a chair in the back of the boat and had my feet crossed like I was in my recliner at home. I was holding onto my rod, the front of the boat was pointed right into the white caps, and I get a bite. Fish is coming up no fight at all. I am expecting to see a dink since we were catching a lot of those at that point in time. As it approaches the surface it looked to be a 2 pounder give or take and I holler to my mom grab the net. As my mom goes to pick the net up the fish comes out of his stunned and lethargic state...dances on the water while shaking his head and poof it's gone.

Dad looks at me and says there goes big fish of the day. I say Thanks Dad...appreciate that. As he flashed a big grin my way. grin

I'm gonna be keeping closing tabs on the web site as well in June. When they hit I will let you know ASAP.

Tight Lines! fish

This has been a great thread. I love talking anything Crappie with everyone on here.

I know in the end we all love sharing information and catching Crappie. I view all of my fellow TFF folks as family. flag

PA without a second breath
There is no other whoopin stick in my rack
Ive sold all my other rods and managed profit to purchase every PA rod I have
My back up crappie stick is nearing 6-7yrs old and never been out of the rack since new.
They do what you bought them for and then some plenty when something chunky comes along

To be upfront and honest, I haven't fish an ACC rod to give a comparison review. Although I own a PA as a gift from a friend, I mostly fish with my custom made St Croix that I built. At least I do fish the PA from time to time over the years. Hence, I can only (for the time being) based on how everyone agrees that both of these rods are great for crappie fishing. Once again, for the time being, I take others' opinions that they are both very nice indeed and best in value.
With that being said, I can tell you that I'd like the ACC better for one simple fact that ACC offers rear reel seat handle like a fly rod in which I love to have an option of using the fly reel. At least, ACC gives me a choice.
Up to a certain depth, Rear reel seat would be great for those who like pulling the line instead of reeling. This quick way of landing a crappie is benificial because dropping back the line of exact same depth without guessing.
I'd definitely like to own an ACC rear reel seat. Once I have an ACC to test out, I can compare more objectively. If for some reason, an ACC rod is less favorable in action, I promise to state my honest opinion as such without bias to either PA or ACC.

Very well stated SlabMeSilly. I'm looking forward to your review.

I don't represent ACC or get anything from them.

I'm merely a fan and a customer and I was simply expressing my opinion since I have indeed fished with both.

Both Crappie Catching Rods for sure.

I will tell people my opinion if they happen to ask like this thread was asking.
I truly believe people should try different products and see what works best for them.

There is nothing wrong with different strokes for different folks.

I hope in offering my opinion on a product that I may simply help a fellow angler find a new tool that they might enjoy using as much as I do and something that will hopefully help them catch more Crappie.

I have bought many things over the years based on someone's opinion on here and Pro Angler and ACC were no different.

I have both in my boat and probably fish them equally. Both are great rods. Performance wise, I don't notice a difference between the two. I haven't checked the specs on either, but the ACC does seem a little lighter, but that weight difference could be coming from the different reels I have on them. It's just a personal thing, but I only prefer the ACC because of the color. The green is just easier for me to see. You won't go wrong with either.

ACC is tough to beat. The pro angler felt like a B&M pole to me. And thats what i wanted to get away from. Acc is a light, stiff rod that can handle being beat up on a consistent basis. BTW i fished with a pro angler once. I now own 3 8 foot greens, a 12 ft green, a 10 foot red, a 10 foot rear seat red, a 11 foot rear seat red and a 7 foot red ACC. Excited about getting a dock shooter next!

Interesting that DKfishin mentioned the weight. I was just gonna ask about that. The PA reports a weight of 4.2 ounces vs. the ACC at 2.4 pounds. That's interesting. Different material for the rod blank? ? ?

I saw that 2.4 pounds on ACC's website also. I promise you it doesn't weigh 2.4 pounds. Arms sure would be tired if that were true. I'm assuming that should be ounces or it is shipping weight with the tube it comes in.

In my experience with PA and BnM rods, there is a huge difference; and that is the reason I stay away from BnM.

CoachTod you do not get a tracking number Andy just ships it to you.

You should have had it by today and more likely than not whoever was supposed to deliver it either forgot it in the truck or got behind on deliveries for the day. It's usually delivered by the Post Office. Check your front porch. I bet you have it by end of the day (Thursday).

Anxious for you to try it out and get your feedback.

Like Crope1 said...slime them up!

No tracking #. Paid with paypal Monday and it was there Wednesday. I really wasn't expecting it that fast. I'm not sure who delivered it. I didn't bother looking at the tube.

Posted yesterday from phone in a hurry. Wanted to make a few edits.

Both of these are great rods! Fished both trees and piles in 12 to 25 feet on Ray Bob on Saturday. Had to weed through a ton of little ones to get a mess. White/chartreuse and pink/shad were my best producers.

Little more on the rods.

Pro Angler. Put a Pfluger 6930 with 6 lb mono trilene. Fished mostly with 1/16 oz pink jig head with bonehead shad. Caught lots of dinks and few keepers on this setup.

ACC Crappie. Put on Quatum Array with power pro super 8 20 lb test (6 lb diameter). Fished mostly 1/16 oz pink jig head with a Cabela's shad. Caught most of the keepers on this setup. A few of those were 14-15 in fish.

Sam Heaton super sensitive 9 footer with Pfluger 6925 with power pro super 8 20 lb test (6 lb diameter). Fished mostly 1/8 oz white/chartreuse feather jig. Caught lots of dinks and few keepers on this setup. This is my usual setup and what I'm used to fishing.

Honest feedback, was all of these setups performed well. I was really impressed with how quickly I received the Pro Angler (2 days). ACC Crappie was coming from IL so took 4 days.

Pro Angler was ~$56 delivered. ACC Crappie was ~$64 delivered.

I would recommend both of these rods. Maybe after years of experimenting, I'll be able to say which one I prefer!

Congrats! I knew they both would catch Crappie in the right hands.

Glad they are working out for you. thumb

First off, I don't need any more fishing poles. That being said, I just bought and received two days later an ACC Crappie Stix. I normally fish with either a 6'6" or a 6'9" Johnny Morris CarbonLite or a 6'6" Fenwick Eagle rod. I do have one 10' B&M rod for when I need a longer one for fishing in timber or if I'm on the back end of the boat fishing concrete. However, after visiting with HOGON, I decided to give the 8' ACC Crappie Stix a try. When my new fishing rod was delivered, my wife asked me what was in the tube and I said, "a new fishing rod". She replied, "I thought you said you didn't need any more fishing poles to which I just said....I don't. Can't wait to try it out!

I put my new ACC to the test Sat and Sun. Couldn't put it down. 14 keepers Sat and a limit Sunday, with at least that many dinks. Love me some ACC!

Gonz,

If you go back and read this thread you will see ACC is out of everything but the 8 Foot Rods and he will be completely stocked any day in June. ACC has ordered the rods he is just waiting for them to show up. Check his web site daily in June. When he gets them he will flip the switch on the web site.

Yes you can. I have both the 6.5 and the 5.5 from pro angler. They both work very well.

After all of the comparisons between pro angler and ACC stix, I went ahead and ordered 2 of the 8' ACC stix.

Just from the feel of the rod, its a lil stiffer than the pro angler and has a lil more back bone due to the build of the rod. Its skinny like a Sam Heaton but made out of a more sturdy material. The tip is a lil slower than that of a pro angler but both rods have a nice backbone. Now I will say I'd feel more comfortable swingin in a 2'r with ease from the ACC stix. That thing is built tough as nails! Gonna try and break em in this weekend to get a better feel for the rod. From just messing around with em, Im leaning towards the pro angler a bit more due to the sensitivity and overall feel. We'll see what I really think after I catch a few slabs with it, this is just from playing around with the rod.

Katchin krappie...doin surgeries(filleting)...and givin hott grease baths until krunchy and golden brown is what it's all about!!!

Action looking forward to you slimming them up with some Slabs.

I do not think after you get a chance to fish with them this weekend that feeling the light bite will be an issue for you.

I am looking forward to your report. thumb

Got my ACC slimmed up this weekend with a few local slabs!

The rod is nice and handles big fish quite well...I wouldn't have any doubt in swinging in those huge 2lb's with this rod! Now the only thing is that the tip is a lil stiff for my liking, I like a rod with a lil quicker tip. Now other than that, its an awesome rod with crazy back bone Ive added to my top 5! I think I heard a lil too much about it and expected more than what I got. Just my 2cents

1.Pro Angler/G-Rod
2.Ozark
3.ACC
4.Tica

I had both ACC and Pro Angler and like them equally. This past week I broke the tip portion off the ACC and broke the handle off the Pro Angler. So very happy that both companies offer replacement parts. Can't believe I broke them both......

A-J, I have a Pro Angler I'd trade for that ACC. My feelings are just the opposite! I think that is why I can fish any rod with the tip broken off. LOL!

Great Report Action and there is nothing wrong with different strokes for different folks.
I'm glad you got to slab them up.
Use what works best for you as an individual and puts fish in your boat.

If I was ranking the Rods based on my personal likes and preferences:

1. ACC
2. TICA
3. PRO ANGLER
4. BnM SAM HEATON SUPER SENSITIVE
5. G-ROD

Pops and I put 50 in the boat yesterday and today we managed 34.

Have I mentioned lately that I love Crappie Fishing?
