So, I've been busy chasing black bass, sandies and catfish. Did I already miss the crappie spawn and shallow bite on Grapevine this Spring? I know in years past it seems Grapevine is one of the last lakes to spawn around here and April is usually good. Thinking about going out tomorrow or Friday and thought a mess of crappie would be nice if they are still shallow. I do have a boat so I can move around, just don't have access to fish inside the marina stalls of course. Thx

We fished the stalls in Twin Coves yesterday and caught a couple of dinks. One keeper but only barely. Used jigs, didn't try minnows. Tried multiple depths and I think every fish came from a different level.

The bite this spring has been very hit or miss for me. I caught a few 10ft deep this morning before the wind blew me off the lake. I think a good chunk of the fish have not spawned yet but finding them will be a challenge.

Thanks, I'm going to give it a shot tomorrow for 1/2 day. I'll take my sandie baits with me just in case the crappie don't cooperate, I don't want to come home without a sore thumb, lol. I'm going to try shallow first but will move slowly deeper if that doesn't work, maybe 12-15 ft at most. I just haven't crappie fished the Vine in years, well, since the recent floods and droughts over the past few years messed things up. Prior to that, we always did very good in the Spring (only time we tried for them). Been fishing for them out there since the mid-70's.

I would focus on structure in 10-15 FOW right on and just off the bottom....

Grapevine is a deeper (though smaller) lake than most around here. I remember fishing Twin Coves from the banks on minnows and catching our best bass and crappie from late April - early June. With the unsual strong cold fronts this year, water temp is down a bit. Think it'll get better as the month moves along.

I've fished the Twin Coves slips for the last 4 weeks. I am far from an expert but I have a general sense for what to do. 80% of the time we've been fishing 1/8oz Bobby Garland jigs in a variety of colors and experimenting with depth. From just below the styrofoam floats to the bottom which is around 25ft. Most of the time we've been around the 10-15ft level. Inside corners and outside corners. And we're only averaging 2-3 fish per outing and lucky if one of those is a keeper. Rain or shine. Same results with minnows. Haven't seen too many boats fishing the banks yet but that's probably due to the wind. (mostly bass fishermen) Just ordered my first batch of handtied feather jigs from PePop so I am excited to see if those can change our luck.

A good amount of fish spawn deeper on Grapevine. Caught several in the slips earlier this year 10 ft deep (on the bottom) or so with eggs running out and a few dark males. As far as the shallow bite, it has been a weird year.

This time of the year the fish in the slips will get VERY shallow. I caught some today at silverlake 2-5 ft deep. I also use 1/16th oz jigs as a good amount of the time, they will hit it on the fall.

Caught a mess last weekend in 17 FOW on main lake brush. Right on the bottom and some females we're already spawned out.

Why? He doesn't get to fish no more. He's too busy.

I caught several in Denton creek Friday in about 2' of water. I thought they were out of there but there was another guy there that limited and they were all good size fish. I caught 2 on minnows where the creek opens up into the lake about 4' deep in 6 fow
