I was able to find a couple of hours to fish today and decided to try my luck with this crazy wind. I did a little research on fishing in windy weather and I saw lots of information saying it was great for catching fish if you focused on the shoreline where the wind was blowing into. I tried a shallow crankbait, a spinner bait, some swimbaits and even a spook. Got nothing! Not even a nibble. It's been a while since I've been skunked and it sucks. So, what tricks/techniques do you use on windy days? The alternative is to stay home... which I would rather not do.

I fished yesterday as well and fought the wind. I wanted to fish Texas rigged soft plastics, but couldn't. Swimjigs and lipless baits were what I used for 3 hours. Lots of walking too!

Fishing the pockets with worms, wacky or Texas...anything can happen.
Fighting that wind is a chore though...

Fronts are definitely affecting the pescados! These warm days gotm thinking thinking hard about hitn points to! The technique is use since I am primarily banking for sandies or anything with stripes is.... the on a1-2 oz slab of your choice and fish into wind or parallel w/ waves.. swim it or (throw it out count to five reel in) bounce it off the bottom while reeling.. hard clay bottoms is your friend. Changes daily no doubt.. you got to just go when you can! Tip.... keep your catch down and be low key!

I mangled the bass yesterday off of tx rigged brush hogs. I just upped the weight and letterrip. They were glued to the bottom since that cold came thru

I mangled the bass yesterday off of tx rigged brush hogs. I just upped the weight and letterrip. They were glued to the bottom since that cold came thru I did try some tx rigged senkos & lizards. But between the wind hitting the line and the waves, I decided I wouldn't be able to tell if I had a bite or not. I think upping the weight would help to steady the line and get it down to the bottom quicker. It makes sense that they were on the bottom since I got nothing on the shallow/floating lures I used. Looks like another cold front coming through today & tomorrow so I'll see if I can try that out. Thanks!

what kind of water are you guys fishing? Creeks? Ponds? I've had good luck getting fish out of cover in creeks. But most of the neighborhood ponds are kept clean and it's hard to tell where the fish could be hiding when they go deep.

I also went fishing today. It was very tough with the heavy wind and the post frontal conditions. However I did manage to catch 3 fish. I used a Gene Larew Hard Head in 5/16oz on a MH rod and I had my back to the wind. Put a reaction innovations sweet beaver on there.

I apply the technique of staying home...Much less stressful on windy days... Lol. I have two young kids at home, so the stress factor is a wash for me. It also means I have limited fishing time so if my chance comes when it's windy, then I have to take it! Some day they will stay still long enough to go fishing with me.... at least that's my working theory...

I went out in the wind ad fished several places and caught bass at all of them. I lost count after 10. I don't usually give nay of my secrets away but I can give you a few pointers. I started out by throwing moving baits (crankbait, rattle trap, soft plastic swim jig). I was getting a few bumps, but I missed more than I caught. I then tried throwing jigs. I went from 1/4oz to 1/2 and couldn't buy a bite on any of them but I was going after the bigger bass while fishing them. I ended up going with what I knew would work... top water. Most of my fish came on top water. No it wasn't easy but if I could get the lure close enough to cover, they would crush it. Next time the wind picks up, throw some top water stuff (not frogs). You'd be surprised at how well it works.

Thanks! I'll give that a try. I did try a little spook jr. type lure, but it didn't have the loud rattle in it. I think on a windy day that could make a difference. I also need to figure out how to find the cover in these big ponds. Maybe just have to move around more until I find some fish. The last time I tried fishing in the wind I tried a different technique that worked... I found a fairly quiet creek where the wind wasn't getting through the trees too much. Caught several good fish, including a 4-lber. Used one of those pocket frogs and a texas rigged lizard.

If you are going to throw a top water, it needs to be able to get their attention. Rattles will help. It needs to make noise and/or commotion on the surface. Enough that they notice and are enticed to take a bite. That doesn't mean go find a salt water bait lol. Find something that will make more noise than the spook jr.

Get you some h&h lures at your local academy for bass! That's my secret go to bait for bass in windy conditions. Black and yellow w/ single blade is a very Versatel weapon! You can jig it swim it and fish it top water. (Reel faster w/ rodtip up) been killing them with this bait over 30yrs.
