Need help wanting to take my 2 kids to Calaveras to do some bank fishing don't need any secret spots or anything like that just some help with a decent spot to put them on a few fish. We have been a couple times with no luck at all, recently moved to this area from Ft Worth so don't know the waters in this area yet. Any help is greatly appreciated

I fish from a boat but if you right after the station go down to the second or third picnic area. Bring rods that you can cast a decent distance and try head on shrimp or crawfish if you can find them. Will be slow until the reds come through but when they do it could get exciting. You might also find some catfish as well. Good luck.

I have fished Calaveras ever since it was built & have seen it go through many changes, bank fishing is tough.. Thousand trails took over managing the lake & reduced the fish able shore line by at lest 50%.
I would recommend with small kids, fishing the pier. Using whole kernel canned corn, liver or cut shad (if you have a castnet) I have caught many reds, stripers & cats from the pier, but it can be very slow at times.
Good luck,
Roger
