I have the ulrerra and the spot lock is just 'ok'. It tends to make big corrections and throws the front of the boat around. I was out on a buddy's boat last night and he has the Ultrex. All I have to say is WOW. Such a huge improvement.

So have I and many others. I prefer Minn Kota. Go drive/test them both and go with the one that you like best. Really can't go wrong.

The new minnkota is bad @$$. Once I adjusted the boat scale it holds my boat within a couple feet and most of the time it's locked within what feels like inches

I had the MG XI5 and it was great but since I got the Ultrex there is no comparison, it's by far a better all around TM. Min Kota Ultrex all the way.

Boat scale is important. I found that adjusting it upwards in big winds helps hold the spot. I adjust it back down when not windy.

What is this "boat scale" you speak of?

Is it something I adjust from my iPhone? Or touchscreen remote?

I've had both and the major difference now is the far superior mount on the Ultrex. Neither the iPilot or the Xi5 have a sturday mount. Also the method of deployment with the Ultrex is so much better than both the iPilot and Xi5. Hands down - get the Ultrex.

I found this on another site. One of the walleye guys posted it.

Just as important is the addition of boat scale, it allows a person to fine tune (match) their boat to the T/M that they have. Each level of the boat scale changes the algorithm which allows the motor to better make corrections. This new feature has not gotten a lot of chatter, but I feel plays an important part in the overall success of the new T/M.

You may ask, why is this needed? Well, because there is such a difference from boat to boat in the variables that affect how a T/M responds, the new Boat Scale allows this "tuning".

Here is a partial list of the factors that play into the need for "Boat Scale":

Boat length
Amount of freeboard
Amount of water displacement - how heavy
Hull shape
Size of T/M
Battery condition
Windshield or not
Top set - full or partial
People put an 80 pound T/M on everything from 16 foot boats all the way to 20 - 21 foot heavy hulls with full windshields and top sets. One set of algorithms might work Ok, but by having a choice of 4 settings allows you to better match all of the components in your system.
