I run the Xi5 on a center console for Tawakoni fishing, literally have no complaints and it'll hold 5' area comfortably.

The new minnkota is bad @$$. Once I adjusted the boat scale it holds my boat within a couple feet and most of the time it's locked within what feels like inches Boat scale is important. I found that adjusting it upwards in big winds helps hold the spot. I adjust it back down when not windy. What is this "boat scale" you speak of? Is it something I adjust from my iPhone? Or touchscreen remote? It's on the new touch screen remote under "System" The settings are -2, -1, 0, +1 and +2. I toggle mine from 0 on calm days to +2 on windy days. It seems to increase the thrust on the +2 setting which works well in wind and waves. It's a bit too aggressive for calm days when I'd rather have it not overcompensate too abruptly. It's just one of the little things I've played with and liked the feature.

Buddy has an Ulterra and it works pretty good. Another buddy had a MotorGuide on his Triton and I didn't think it worked well (and it wasn't windy?) I bought an Ultrex simply for the mount to match the mount I already had on my boat and once dialed in and set up correctly, its the best and I'm not saying that because I have one. Just go use these different models and make your own decision. The guys posting that the Ultrex moves too much probably haven't set it up correctly with the steps discussed above. Makes a weekend on the water, especially in wind, much more enjoyable, where you can fish instead of fighting the wind.
One of the pluses that Ive noticed also is that my batteries are in much better shape after a full tournament day that the other TM I used to run for 8-9hrs on the water

I have two boats. One with an Ultrex and one with an XI5. The XI5 is better than the Ulterra in my opinion but does does not even come close to the Ultrex. No comparison.

WOW, I always wanted to know more about both systems. I have two powerpoles blades on my boats and have probably used the less than 5 times in two years, a lot of money to use just to keep my boat from floating away when it is on the bank. I have always thought the spot lock would fit my fishing style better, and now I am going to really look into making the change. Good information sharing on this thread

Which one does a better job This like asking "Shimano or Abu Garcia" or "Power Pole or Talon". You're going to hear good and bad about both of them. Investigate the heck out of each, check on best prices and buy one.

There is a reason that MinnKota outsells motor guide by a huge margin. There is also a reason more facilities have MinnKotas in for repair. There is so many more MKs on the water vs MG that the chances are good a shop is working on one.

I would go with Motor Guide. Due to the customer service. I purchased a Ulterra last year. With auto deploy. Since then it has been to the shop 3 times. Do to big water. And Minn kota does not want to help me out on a replacement unit.
Boris Marine is awesome in the repair part of this. But he works on both brands,
Good Luck
