Guys I'm looking at getting a truck/camper setup to use while towing my boat. I thought some of you guys might have this set up and could give me a little insight on the pro's and con's of it.

In for this.
Im contemplating buying a small bumper pull camper and pulling my boat double so I can keep my shell on the truck for added storage.

Thought about this for a long time. But it takes a whole lot of 50-75 dollar hotel rooms to offset the cost for a nice slide in camper...

I use a 2010 f250 diesel. My camper is a 2005 lance 845 and tow a 20 foot skeeter. I love the camper. Yes you can argue it takes alot of motel stays to pay for it. But since i got the camper i fish a lot more and that has made me a better fisherman.

The Lance campers are nice, very expensive for the size, but well layed out. I have a 43 four toy hauler that is extremely nice but not good for fishing. It's too long to triple tow and illegal at that length. Major pain to make two trips so I've decided to sell it. I much prefer camping to a hotel but unless you triple tow, make two trips, or do the truck camper there's not a lot options. Last few trips to Rayburn we rented a house for the family.
The truck campers are nice but you need a lot of truck, as in a dually, if you get a large one with the slide outs.

I have an older Lance 980. It is for Long bed trucks only. I have used both 3/4 and 1 ton trucks to use it while pulling bass boats behind it. I really enjoyed the convenience of not having to pack up much for a weekend trip since I just keep all my stuff in it. However, if I was just going for one night it did not really save much money by the time I paid for the extra fuel to haul it. I now just leave it at my fish camp at Rayburn and use it like a regular camper. It really needs to be bigger for using it the way I do now. It's to the point now I should sell it and by a bumper pull with more room on the inside. If you travel a lot while you fish and have a proper truck it's a great deal. For camping with family they are not so great because of the lack of room. If you buy one make sure you get electric jacks.

I had a Lance 845. They are really nice and very convenient. Just takes a 3/4 ton or 1 ton to feel safe with one of them. If you want something a little lighter for a 1/2 ton, check out www.capricamper.com in Bluffdale. Local company and will build to suit your needs.

Lance had a nice cab over at the Bassmaster Classic Expo that was made for a 1/2 ton truck and hauled there by a 1/2 ton Toyota. It had all the same stuff in it that my 980 has. I believe they said a half ton could haul it and pull a boat. The price at the show was about $24,000.

Lots more to consider than simply is it "cheaper to get a hotel room than a camper". Sure if all you are looking for is a place to sleep when fishing that's valid. We owned a big Lance truck camper many years ago and loved it. Three boys later and we quickly outgrew it. Bumper pulls and fifth wheels...done it all. Now with all three finishing college the truck camper is looking good again. We are looking at this Lance 1172. We do more than simply use our camper for sleeping when fishing. Truck campers have came a long way! 1-2-and even 3 slide outs! This camper is as roomy as most class C motorhomes and rides good on a truck(1 ton dually). We will travel all over with it & even plan a trip to Alaska. Huge plus with the truck camper is the freedom to safely pull any boat any time you want to bring it. With over 30,000lbs towing and 7000lbs payload it's not much of a load for a newer Dodge 3500. You didn't ask what was the cheapest way to sleep only when fishing. Loved the truck camper and going back again!
