Sounds like Fannin County where I grew up back in the 50's. If it was real muddy we even drove the old "M"Farmall down to the river. There wasn't a good stock tank anywhere in the county that we didn't know about. We knew every good swimmin hole too. As I got older I soon learned where the bootlegger lived but that is another story.

From Genesis: "And God promised men that good and obedient wives would be found in all corners of the earth."

Then He made the earth round...and He laughed and laughed and laughed!

It was another world, another planet, another universe back then.

Remember the way those cars smelled? Kind of a musty...earthy smell, with a dash of old dried up minnows in a galvanized minnow bucket. And they always had a couple of dead yellow jackets laying on the parcel shelf. If you slapped the upholstery the dust would make a cloud. One of my favorite memories of my youth was camping on Rowlett creek during the sandbass run. We would park on hwy 66 and go upstream a pretty good ways with our tents and stuff and then have to make a second trip for the coolers of cold beer. The creek was private property then out in the country. Boy we had fun down there. Isn't it a shame how you never see kids down there having fun any more, Just a few fishing with their dads.

I don't remember how many times I've had to pull foam rubber out of the back seat for use as stink bait sponge. And that was on the family sedan!

We all drove pickups that we all chipped in working on. You could get at least 4 of us in the front and still be able to shift gears. We all had tool boxes on the back. Those made for impromptu coolers to keep our beer hid. Most of us had rolled one, but you just pushed it back upright and went again. Always had a gun behind the seat in case the wild hogs came to the tank we were fishing at. Most popular lures were mepps minnows and jitterbugs. Depending on who we were working for at the time, we would take a break around lunch for the grownups to get a nap and we would fish and swim until time to get back to work.

Buddy had a wore out 66 Impala that required filling the oil and checking the gas. Could be seen parked along I-30 between Arkadelphia and Malvern as we waded all the creeks. Ultra light for bream, goggle eye, bass, and sometimes even a smallmouth. Allman Bro. on 8 track. 1973-75. I could do it again.
