My grandaughter.4 years old goes to Lewisville-Flower Mound pre pre K. This is a govt funded thing for low income. This fall they said my grandaughter cannot attend pre K because my daughter makes too much money. They told her she could find a private school for 300 a month which my daughter cannot afford. Good thing she gets to go to Kindergarten when shes 5-6 reguardless of what her mom makes.

kindergarten is when they start schooling kids. everything before that is on the parents. It has only been like this for the last hunnit years give or take. I am disappointed poor folk get free pre K.

Honestly, $300 a month for private preK seems like a bargain if you want to send them.

look into a church early education around them they are normally much cheaper, smaller classes and do a great job of preparing them for kindergarten.

If pre pre,pre kindergarten, and kindergarten as so great at getting kids ready for grade schools, how come our public schools and colleges graduate some of the dumbest, ill informed, under educated, no common sense kids in the world?

I'd be very skeptical of sending my child anywhere that charges $300 per month. My daughter is 6 so we've recently been through this, and were paying $240 per week for pre-k/day care. After school care for her cost us around $150 per week.

School is an opportunity rather than a guaranteed outcome. People from all over the world come to our colleges and universities, so they must not be too bad.

how many of us managed to survive and do ok in their life without pre-K or kindergarden....I didn't have any of that...my parents sent me to school to start the first grade and the public schools had 12 years to teach me reading, writing and arithmetic.... I guess my question is...how necessary is it that a kid goes to kindergarden or pre K?.....

Pre and pre pre kindergarten = subsidized day care Yep, my kid didn't go, and he has never brought home a grade lower than 96 in his eight years at school.

Kinda a a hole thing when the guys daughter wants to put her in a pre-k program and everyone trashes them. How bout some ideas. Maybe his daughter needs some extra work with her cause she has to work two jobs and can't spend the time she needs working with her that we all would like to?

Save it for high school. It's way more important.

Didn't mean to sound that way but re-reading my comment I sure did. I guess my point of view is none of those programs, pre-k or whatever, have shown any educational benefit to children in any demographic. We're paying the freight for daycare. I'd like my school tax dollars to go to education. And while we're at it get all school sports teams out of the school and into the community. No more skipping out of class for away games, etc. Now flame away.
