Don't know about the rest of you, but the shallow water pre-spawn and spawn crappie fishing has been excellent for me this season, since late February. I haven't limited out but once, but fishing 45 min to an hour a day, late afternoon, and late night after work has been rewarding. No big numbers, but few if any throwbacks. The bonus for me has been some hefty bass that have hung out in the same haunts as the big crappie. Jig and bobber has worked excellently for both species.

Jig set 14-18 inches below bobber. Fished 1-3 ft from shore. Fish PARALLEL to the shore, not 80 yards towards the middle of the body of water. Rocks, laydowns, ledges, flats, all seem to be holding fish. No need to tell you where, because these are universal patterns, and jig/bobber will work ANYWHERE.

Anyways, I am catching no more than 4-5 fish per trip, but when the small ones are in the 11-12 inch range, and the big ones may be 14-16 inches, who cares!

Small sample. ALL fish caught on red/chartreuse hollow body tube jig on a 1/32 unpainted jig head, or a Blue Fox Whip Tail Rooster Tail wannabe, 1/8th oz. Clear water, murky, muddy, windy, mirror calm, late afternoon, sunset, dusk, deep night, full moon, dark moon, didn't make much difference. Even caught them in the middle of sudden rainshowers.

Go get em! And yes on occasion, i do keep lmb. My mom likes em, so, . . . .

Rudy

Nice going Rudy! I haven't well at all this spring for crappie but then again I have been fishing for sandies and Hybrids in the creeks mostly.

I have thought about hitting the sand bass run, but with the crappie biting pretty decently so close to my house, i just decided to stick with them, and the big bass.

I did hit the sandies a couple times at Frazier dam and did decently, but crappie fishing so far has been easy pickin's, so . . . .

I don't get around here near like I used to, but it's good to see, after all these years, you are still wearing them out!
