First day of two day scramble and me and my high school bud scored about as well as we could have hoped for in miserable conditions. Bogey free day in wind, rain, and cold. Ended up tied for last with two other teams in the bottom of Championship Flight with a 5 under 66, one team at 64, and three teams tied for the lead at 62. The good news is we get to sleep in late and play when it gets warmer tomorrow afternoon. I didn't hit the ball as solid as last week but played better because I was more cautious with only one partner to depend on. Almost won the closest to the pin with a shot that was 4 feet from the pin on a par three, less than 6 inches from the winner. Our best hole was later in the day on 160 yard par three into the wind when I stuck it 5 feet from the hole and my partner almost made a hole in one. My soccer ball on the right, partner next to hole for tap in birdie. Played with two other teams that were fun to play with as my partner has played with them for years. One of the teams knocked it in from 120 yards out for an eagle 2 on par 4. The other team had a guy on it that I found out was truly a legend, 75 year old retired Sheriff Elette of Carthage. This guy has won every major police organization golf tournament throughout the country many times including representing the U.S. and winning against the best golfers from police organizations throughout the world. He has played golf all over the world and it showed as he played in the wind like he was on a links course in Scotland. He has also won every type of firearm shooting contest as well. What an honor it was to play 18 holes with this guy. No illusions about having any chance of winning tomorrow, just improvement. Only 7 teams in Championship flight 58 teams in the tournament.

Another round of five under 66 today. Course played harder as they didn't water the greens and moved the pins to much tougher positions. Thankful we shot what we did as most of the teams went backwards on day two. We ended up 3rd and in the money.

The golfer standing on the tee overlooking the river tells his partner, "Look at those two idiot fishermen fishing in the rain."

Its strange to me that my two favorite hobbies have totally different views of bringing bananas with you.
