We went out with Chris of Striper Express and had a great day. The weather couldn't have been better with a cool day plenty of cloud cover and slight winds. I took my son Cole and business partner Ted who tore them up on swimbaits and slabs. I however refused to pick one up and threw the 8wt all day. There were a few factors that lead to my not catching as many but stripers on the fly, no matter the size, are a blast. I should have been more patient with letting the clouser sink deeper but with the drift it seemed to want to stay around 15'deep and I was catching the smaller ones where they were at 25' and getting bigger ones. I should have put on a 1/4oz split shot but I wanted to make sure I was casting the sinking line correctly before adding more weight to it. Shout out to Steven at Backwoods for setting my spare spool up with the line and for tying me a "special" striper fly.

yeah it was an awesome day..i boated around 12 and lost as many but they limited us out fairly quickly with them using swim baits. We will make a run up there soon and get out on my boat so bring a big rod hopefully will need it.

Good for you, sticking with the fly rod. I used to cave when guys were catching more fish than I was. But I got to the point that, when I would catch a fish on conventional tackle I was disappointed that I hadn't caught it in a fly. So I would pick the fly rod back up. Caught fewer fish sometimes, but I was happier.
