Plan last Saturday was to go to cedar creek lake then head out to my parents place for crawfish boil later in the afternoon. We'll I slept in and didn't make it to Cedar Creek. My Parents live in Alvarado so I decided on a whim to try out lake Cleburne. Never been on that lake so had no idea was I was getting into. Arrived at 10:00am and wind was blowing a good 25mph so I was limited to what areas I could fish. Decided to stay shallow and fish for spawning crappie, figured looking for brushpiles and fishing them would be a task with the wind. First spot I stopped was the bank west of the dam. Started throwing a jig and cork slowly going down the bank and not much happening until I came upon some flooded vegetation and started whacking the crappie one after the othe in 2.5 foot of water. All keepers but no giants. Figured I would stay with that pattern the rest of the day since it was working. Once I had worked that cove over I moved up to the next one and fished some of the docks. Only managed two fish from the docks but they were respectable. Next step was the next cove north of there. While heading that way I stirred up some gulls that were sitting on a flat and decided to stop and see if there were any sandies under them. When I slowed down and switched over to side scan I noticed a brush pile full of fish. The wind had died a little so I threw out a marker turned around and started catching gooduns for 30 minutes straight until I decided to head on in leaving the fish biting. Only kept 10 for my dad who needed some crappie and released all the rest. Would have easily had a limit and caught about 40 total fish for 5 hrs on a new lake. I'll definitely go back in the future to see what the rest of the lake has to offer. Couple pics from the day.
