Knew I was going to be crossing the Guadalupe, Blanco and Pedernales rivers on my way to Fredericksburg today so I made sure I brought the fly rod. Finished my last work appointment late this afternoon and headed to LBJ State Park to try my luck on a "new to me" spot on the Pedernales. Started off with a tiny bass... ...before getting into the sunfish. That last one really swallowed the green wooly bugger I was throwing, didn't he? I caught a few more bass and quite a few more sunfish before heading to the Blanco. Made my first cast before I looked to my left and spotted a neighbor. Decided to move upstream and let him have that part of the river. The fish in the Blanco were just as hungry as the ones in the Pedernales. At this point I decided I'd taken enough pictures and proceeded to fish for another hour or so. I was really hoping I'd be able to stop and get a line wet in the Guadalupe today, but it just didn't happen. I guess I'll have to wait until I have enough time to make a day of it.

Great day on the fly. The Blanco probably has the biggest green sunfish just about anywhere in the country.

Thanks Wildman and J-Moe for the replies.
Wildman, did you see me in town or on the river?
J-Moe, I still have a lot to learn about fly fishing but I'm having a blast doing it.

Love how you make time for fishing 1960texan. I am stuck inside an office for 12 hours. At least I love my job and have some really neat people to work with. Awesome post and some nice fish. Good job.
Side Note: What weight is your fly rod?

Side Note: What weight is your fly rod? Thanks Laker One. Loving your job and having good co-workers is important. Sometimes I wonder how much better the world would be if we all had that situation. Fly rod is a 5 weight. It is a real kick to catch a fish on the fly. The rod telegraphs the fight a lot better than a spinning rod, IMHO.

Thanks! I have only been fly fishing for about a year and love it. I also love my ultralight spinning rig. I have both a 3 and 5 weight rod. Catching sunfish on a 3wt is simply awesome no matter how big the fish is. You are right on about the telegraphing the fight. A flyrod does it much better than a spinning rod. Just my two cents as well.
