Primarily bass and crappie fisherman so all my gear is centered toward that. What would be your "Go To" jig to catch Bluegill. Size and color? (Not interested in live worms) When the crappie bite shuts down, I'd like to have a couple jigs on hand in my aresenal to switch over and snag a few bluegills. Any suggestions?

I usually use worms 99.9 percent of the time while fishing for Bluegill. When I do not use worms I use the Gulp Alive Night Crawlers. As for jigs I mainly use em for Crappie but have caught some nice Bluegill on Chartreuse/Black or Chartreuse/Pink colored jigs. Chartreuse colors seem to work the best! thumb

I drop to a 32nd head and cut half the tail off of generic 2" tube baits.
Pretty much everything with white or Chart gets it done.
Clear water I run solid colors like black, junebug, purple metal flake etc
Catch alot of really big bass on them more often then not as well

Yeah, like banker said check out the Gulp! Nightcrawlers if you're not using live bait. Also you can use your bass weights and swivels and rig a Carolina rig. Fish just like you would for bass. Just use #8 to #10 hooks.

If you have a bunch of crappie gear, you're already set. Yeah 1/32 or 1/64 jig and you can catch'em.

I love love love me some bobby garland itty bitty swim'rs especially in the summer! Perfect size for the newly hatches shad and minnows. Use them in the creek for the gills, longears, and greens. Also get way more cats on them than other jigs as well in the summer. Would also be good to mix in with the crappie when the bite slows to tempt them with a tiny meal.

Found some P-Wee worms at Cabellas and destroyed some big gill yesterday
Three baits lasted about 2hrs before the fell to the brutal pressure of the 8" slabs.

J-Moe's pic covers it, although red/chartreuse is just as effective. I am already starting to get em on that rig, no bobber is more effective. A slow steady retrieve through the staging areas or the actual beds is irresistible to those bedding or thinking about bedding.

I had a guy make these for me and love them. Any small plastic/jig will usually work though.
