I'm looking for a little advice and hoped some here could steer me in the right direction. I'm introducing my 4 y/o son to fishing on the boat. Fayette is the closes lake to the house and I've always had great luck bass fishing there. I've read it's a pretty good bream lake. I've never fished for bream on a power plant lake. Do they bed up early? Any advice on what to look for cover to key in on. Depth?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Fayette is a GREAT sunfish lake. This time of year fish the reed beds and the stick-ups. Fish should be shallow 4 to 6 feet deep. When fishing the stick-ups 8 to 12 feet deep. Good luck and let us know how you do.

I have fished Fayette a lot over the years but it has been for bass. I have always gotten good results. Never targeted sunfish but based on past sunfish reports from Fayette I would fish close to the reeds.

Casso, I went out Saturday morning to Oak Thicket. I fished the banks on the first 2 coves along the reeds and open shore line. I didn't catch anything though. I was fishing with a fly rod, live worms would have been much better. There are talapia in the lake as well so you may find a colony of those.

I asked a couple of the bass fishermen about the red ear sunfish. They said they normally hold off the first drop off from the bank.

Please report back. The lake is less than an hour from the house but I don't fish it often because I haven't figured it out yet.

I have only fished Fayette a few times. The last trip was in early September this past year. Seems the reed beds were the spots I found the most fish at. Just my two cents. 2cents

I agree with this.....sorta

I was there a couple of weeks ago and caught all my fish on the first drop. I was using my old faithful 2" triple tail. Bluegill weren't hitting, but bass were. The bank is deceptively seductive in my opinion. Really good looking stuff, but too shallow. Hits came on the first drop. Wind is your friend.

I was actually targeting bluegill. Had my favorite bluegill bait on my favorite ultra lite rig and kept having to put up with these

Saw a couple of birds snag some bluegill in the trees, but it was too windy to fight the boat in there.
The dam was the same way. Nothing on it or close, but a bunch a few yards off in like 18'.

I would certainly suggest casting real shallow into the reeds (you never know), buy try and be a ways off the bank and don't give up early on the retrieve.

I love staying at Oak Thicket.
