I fished a central Texas creek over the weekend and caught the usual sunfish, bluegill and bass but one of these fish looked a lot like a Guadalupe bass. Did some research online about where these fish can be found and this creek seems to be a little north of their range. It looks like a Guadalupe bass to me but I'm not 100% sure, what do y'all think?

Looks like a spotted bass to me, but it can be tough to differentiate. Nice fish!

When you say Central Texas do you mean the Austin / hill country area? Because that's prime Guadalupe bass territory.

Thanks! And yes, this creek is only 20 miles north of the Round Rock/Georgetown area where there are Guadalupe bass in the rivers and creeks. The possibility of them being in this creek is pretty cool but it very well could have been a spotted bass.

I've caught alot of bass over my life time and have never seen one quite like that one . It's not a regular black bass LM or SM . Probably is a Guadalupe bass . Thanks for sharing a picture .

That's a great looking specimen. My guess without further evidence is its what I always called a Kentucky bass aka spotted bass. Great markings on that one.

Black eye makes me think Spot, not Guad...

Guads have a dark spot on their tongue. Spots don't.

Eye color and coloration come second to the tongue ID.

Great info guys, thank you.

I'll check for the spot on the tongue next time I hook into one like this Centex, that's good to know.

And Hawkpuppy, what color eyes do Guads typically have?

Typically a red or at least a red ring in the black area...

As luck would have it, a little Guadalupe Bass decided to tug on my line today. Got a good shot of the toothy patch on its tongue.
