I was going to buy an Ultrex for my boat last week and was told by a real reliable source that there are problems with them and that they have to be sent back to the factory for service when they have something break. I was told that none of the service centers are allowed to work on them. Has anyone had this happen and if so what is the turn around time. Haven't heard too many bad things about the Ultrex until I heard this. Lets hear from all those Ultrex owners.

I have one but have only used it twice. Worked flawlessly both times. Might be the greatest accessory I have and the only functions I've used are spot lock and the other one where you can get your boat pointed in the direction you want to go and it will hold that direction on continuous.

Same here. I have about 15-16 hours on mine. It's been perfect. It did, however, lose spot lock once yesterday during the heaviest downpour. But, I walked back to the front and tapped the anchor button and it held again. It's by FAR the best thing about my boat now. Makes fishing in crazy wind easy. The spot lock holds the boat in around a two foot diameter. Crazy accurate. ...and easy on the batteries.

No issues with mine, had it since January, probably fished about 15 trips with it, what an awesome addition to a boat.

No issues yet, like others can't imagine fishing in the wind without it now. I can spend more time fishing and less time fighting to hold position.
I have heard that if you have an issue it has to go back to the factory, that's common for new products. Not sure how long that will be required before the repair shops can start working on them.

I have one and it is awesome. I also have had spot lock turn off a couple of times one day. Not sure exactly why unless the prop hit a stump and it turned off. I was in a timbered area at the time.

Greatest invention ever! We were pulling fish out of the bushes and wouldn't have been able to position the boat (and control it) the same way with any other motor.
Absolutely love it!

I have had mine since January and it's probably the most worn out Ultrex on the planet. I would bet on that. Actually need to send it back to Minn Kota to get serviced. Gas Cylinder and lift no longer work. Other than that zero problems, with the exception of severing the US2 sonar cable in the bracket when deploying.

I have used mine three or so times and have had couple issues. Spot lock kept turning off and the remote would not communicate with the motor, foot pedal worked fine. Talked with minnkota and verified after downloading the ipilot app that the remote was the culprit. Sent me a new remote and everything seems to be working fine. Not sure what is up with the spot lock issue though, minnkota didn't seem to have any good info to provide either.

Don't trust the original remote battery, the one that was sent lasted 3-4 outings for me. Did the same issues you said dav. Swapped in a new battery and been working great. Knock on wood,no the remote never showed low battery.

I think minnkota is wanting them back so they can catch any problems that might arise. Turnaround times I've seen have been all different. Some guys get a new one sent and then return theirs and some said 2 or 3 weeks

I have owned one for about 3 months and will be getting my 3rd one from the factory. The first issue was the power stearing went out. Correct, no one can work on them. It was sent back to factory and a new one was sent out. Took about two weeks. Second one had a short in it and only worked about 50% of the time. Sent back to factory and now it has been 2 weeks waiting on new one. I use my rig at least 3 days a week. I really hope I get a good unit this time because when they work there is nothing lke it.

I've had zero issues with mine. Such a fantastic product!

Let me say I would not trade mine for anything...but I have had a few issues. Within the first month I had to replace the armature but luckily Sartin Marine had a spare one in stock. The next week I hit a stump on level 3 speed going against the wind and the shaft shattered completely. The boat stays on Fork year round and I have hit stumps a lot harder than that and never had any issues. Again Sartin Marine ordered me a new shaft set up and it took 3 weeks to get in because they were on backorder. The part that bothered me is that I got a nice email from Minn Kota stating that I need to be more careful on lakes like Fork since it has so many stumps in it. They wouldn't warranty the shaft again against breakages on Fork! What! With all that said, I would buy another one of these things in a second because of how great they are.

Wait a minute!! So the "lifetime" warranty on the "unbreakable" shaft is limited to what lake you fish on? Well...I think the lake shouldn't make a difference.

Easy fix, if they clearly state lake fork in the email regarding warranty, don't ever say lake fork again. If asked, it's an open water lake with very few stumps lol

I've fished mine on Monti 5 days in the last month and Fork stumps are like pillows compared to Monti and I have not had any issues. I'm sure like any piece of new technology there are going to be bugs to work out once they are on the lakes being used in an uncontrolled environment. I've not had a single issue and like others said, it's an incredible piece of equipment.

I did buy the four year warranty though..... I figured the first model of anything is destined for trouble.
Nothing yet.

P.S. Not true.... I smacked a stump on Pines and broke a blade off the prop. New one bolted right on and didn't miss a beat. All my fault.

I called Minn Kota after I saw this post and wanted to speak with someone higher up about the email I received. I was told that they would warranty the shaft in the future but what the rep should have clarified for me is that they will not warranty the labor next time. He did apologize for the misleading email. He said they only warranty the labor the 1st time on a broken shaft, after that it's at their discretion and being on a lake like Fork their is a strong chance they would not warranty the labor next time.

I have heard of at least 3 or 4 shafts breaking. It does not have the break away feature that the Foretrex has. This has been the deal breaker for me here in ET.

I would like to see that email. It specified Lake Fork? I have shattered 2 of the same shafts on a terrova and and Ulterra and never have they said that. It was no questions asked.

How are they on the batteries? Seems like using spot lock would be a pretty good drain.

Supposedly they are suppose to be better for the batteries because it will rev up or down as needed vs having your motor set on 60 or 70 and it's sending that much power constantly while the button is pressed in turn using more battery. It could be a sales pitch but I could see it possibly saving battery.

Mine is easier on the batteries than either of my previous tm's. Far less recharge time needed at night than ever before.

I've had my new boat for 2 weeks and the Ultrex already broke. The manual steering won't work. Spot lock still works and it will spin around and keep me on one spot, but pressing the pedal doesn't do anything. It won't move up or down when I put my foot on it... Sigh

Sigh Sounds like an installation error. Maybe the steering was not calibrated properly...or the step was skipped altogether. I've had one for two weekends now. It has been abused. Run constantly for over 10 hours of windy tourney fishing yesterday. It has been banged into stumps and dam rocks, used as a power pole by getting the thing stuck in the mud in one foot of water. ...you name it. Very easy on batteries and solid as a rock. Only issue....the buckle on the transport strap seems to like to flop into the channel the mono arm lays into during rough water boating. When I deploy, it gets wedged into the channel and I have to use both hands to yank it up out of the water. My fault. Not MKs. The thing is beastmode.

I had serial # 00000000007 on 53" 112. It had problems sinking up on the Spot Lock first time out. Called them, they sent me a brand new complete trolling motor and had it in two days, they paid the return postage. I have had mine since the first week in December, ran it into stumps, rocks, boats and numerous under water hazards......it keeps asking for more!!! If some one tells you not to get it...... they want to beat you!!! It is the best thing for fishing in the last 20 years!!

I've had my new boat for 2 weeks and the Ultrex already broke. The manual steering won't work. Spot lock still works and it will spin around and keep me on one spot, but pressing the pedal doesn't do anything. It won't move up or down when I put my foot on it... Sigh Have to send it back to Minn Kota, and they don't have any available right now to send to me so I have to wait until mid May to get a new one. Brand new boat, and the Ultrex dies on the 3rd trip.. and now no fishing for over a month I would have my dealer install a four trex to use until the Ultrex is fixed, did you buy it through the dealer where you bought the boat ? The boat(2017 Legend v20) came with the Ultrex. That's definitely a good idea. I'll call the dealer tomorrow.

I fish with this guy and against this guy. ^^^ 100% True. It is a coin flip on who is more ruff on equipment between the two of us. I have busted, broken and bent Fortrex 101's and 112's. It is equipment not a romance IMO. Once I got the Ultrex I keep up the pace and it has taken the beating. Game changers with its spot lock and N headings. Yea sure every product had a % that is manufactured which needs some more TLC but it is well built. Plain and simple.

But, one day I am sure I will upgrade...

I had one on my last boat. The bord went out in the head of the motor and I lost all GPS functions. Minn Kota had a new Ultrex at my door in 3 days
