I had a $25 gift certificate from Orvis and they had a sale and free shipping on flies. I bought some flies for bass and had a little over $2 left. They have something called a shaky worm which is basically a San Juan worm made out of plastic. I bought one to fill out my order.
Yesterday morning I went to a local pond. I started out with a popper but didn't hook anything. The pond is long and narrow and when I got to the end it was shallow and I could see bluegill on beds.
I put on the worm and caught a couple of bluegill, but they were mostly just giving it a look and maybe bumping it.
I cast out into deeper water let it sink for a bit and stripped it once when I got a hard tug and knew it wasn't another gill. It wound up being this 17" bass.
I went to another part of the pond and got a couple more bluegill before one bit the tail off. They do that on a lot thicker conventional worms and trailers so I wasn't too surprised.
