I have been out of fishing for a long time, but looking to get back into it. I do not own a boat or kayak, and long hikes can get a bit rough on me lately.
Anyway, I am looking for a place where I can catch a mess of eating size bluegill/sunfish. Catfish, white bass and crappie are fine too. Just would like to catch a few meals worth for my wife and I a few times a year.
I am not limited to granger and Georgetown, just the only places I know of. I would like to avoid having to go to ladybird lake (just too many people around)
I don't know if granger or Georgetown are even doable from the bank. I live in Round Rock
Any ideas would really be appreciated!

Ragamuffin1967 to the Texas Fishing Forum! Glad to have you on board. As for the Austin area I would try the Perdernales State Park. I fished it a couple of weeks ago and caught a nice bass and several nice Bluegill. The bite will pick-up in May. You can also try Decker Lake in Austin. Good sunfish lake. I have always fished Decker from a boat however there is some bank space there. Worth giving it a try. Friends of mine fish Onion Creek and they say it holds some nice sunfish. I have never fished Onion Creek. A little ways south in San Marcus you have the San Marcus and Blanco Rivers. Both hold nice sunfish with lot's of bank space. Best of luck and let us know how you do.

Thanks for the welcome and the suggestions! It looks like pedernales falls state park closes to day visitors when they have all of the campsites full. I am Leary about Austin as I don't want to get mugged Apparently lake Georgetown is called the Dead Sea among people that fish. Plus I think fish down here head for deeper water as it gets warmer.

Berry Springs Park & Preserve in Georgetown has good creek fishing, and you can fish the San Gabriel river at the VFW park.

Onion Creek is good. Also just down 71 Lake Bastrop and the Colorado River that goes through Bastrop are good places to fish with plenty of bank space.

Georgetown is not the Dead Sea. It can be a little humbling at times. It has a nice population of eating size sunfish. And they should be up shallow and very catch able if not now then soon.

G'town bluegill. I am 6'-2 and my hands are not small. A dozen of these make a nice meal for my wife and me.

Thanks for the info all! Fishthebite, it looks like you are on a boat, I just need to figure out which park to fish the bank on. But this is exactly what I am looking for!

I would suggest starting at the fishing pier on the west side at Jim Hogg Park. You could also try the east bank at Jim Hogg. Most of it is accessible. A short walk around the cove on the east side of Jim Hogg will also give you access to the water. Unfortunately a lot of the bank around the lake is very steep and the water in these areas tends to be very deep. Please be careful. Hope you do well.
You could also fish in San Gabriel Park in G'town itself if you can fish during the week? From what I gather it has a decent population of fish.

I think I will drive out there to Georgetown this weekend, if it looks good, I will get a fishing license. Too bad they expire in August and it's about to get hot! I work 2nd shift, so days can be more open to me. Work just down the road from the 360 bridge, but not sure how safe that is at 1am.

TPWD now offers a "year from purchase" option. Just remember to ask for it.
And don't forget that you can fish inside any Texas state park without a license. Just get out there and wet a line. Good luck! Please let us know how you do.
