Squid for catfish

I have some leftover frozen squid from my last year's offshore trip (last year). Has anyone tried to use it as a bait to catch catfish? Squid is whole - about 6-8". I usually use chicken livers - but thought this might work as well.
Thanks

Works great for saltwater cats in bays. Don't know about freshwater cats. Would think if it stinks they would bite it.

Quite a few guys use shrimp on Lake Belton. I think anything that produces a fishy smell would work.

Tried squid, Fished 3 poles side by side Shad, chicken w/dead red and squid. shad hit the most then chicken nary a nibble on squid. Maybe they just had a taste for shad.

Same here. Squid catches in the gulf but not so much in freshwater. Fishing the coast a lot I have brought home ribbon fish, sardines, Bonita, and most everything and caught blues. Nothing on squid. BTW ribbonfish or mackerel works the best.

Squid is awesome on a jugline or trotline. Hold scent for a long time and pretty tough and stays on the hook. It's not fresh shad or live bait but when I set lines I always take a box with me.

If slim jims, cheese, ivory soap, hot dogs, jello dough balls, etc etc etc work then so will squid.

Thanks for the feedback. Might give it a try next time (freshwater).

use small squid and stuff the tubes with your favorite stink bait. best of both worlds. A bait that has smell and texture catfish like, and a way to keep your bait on the hook.

What do you think will work best as far as stink bait? Chicken livers? For those that use chicken livers - do you let them sit in the sun for a couple of hours to give it the extra smell?

Liver sucks compared to punch bait. Used to use liver almost exclusively but once discovered punch bait I've never touched it, even have a few tubs of liver in the freezer for almost a year. 1/2 the time I get more channels on punch bait than on cut shad. You also don't have to touch it!
