I was wondering if we have Redbreast Sunfish any where around Plano, Garland, Richardson, or Wylie area? I would really like to catch one...

Jonathon, we have them down here on Lake Athens, so you within 80 or so miles of one source.
Just a guess that you may see more of them in lakes to your east though they have been introduced as far out as west Texas.
Nice looking fish!

I don't know about the Plano,Garland area. I do know by seeing a ton of past post that central Texas, south Texas, and east and west Texas have tons of Redbreast! Do not know much about your area.

Don't know about that area, but have seen folks catch some really small ones in Humble and going northeast into the Thicket. Seems like the better ones are in CenTex.

I've caught them in the Brazos below Lake Whitney, which is less than two hours from Plano.

Thanks Brad! Lake Athens is my favorite lake... I only wish they had more bank fishing access. I may need to borrow a kayak and try to go find some. JZ Jonathon, we have them down here on Lake Athens, so you within 80 or so miles of one source.

The Lake Athens Redbreast record? 1.11 lbs. an 10.55 inches. Not bad! But, way back in 1997.
The Lake Athens Redear record is 1.22 lbs. and 11.25 inches, so another nice sized fish. This one was caught in 2007
Bluegill is .90 lbs. and 10 inches. This one was caught in 2011.
I've caught a larger bluegill out here than that by a bit. But, I'd suppose that for each of these listed records many more have been caught and not reported.

Caught one today in the Paluxy River near Glen Rose. Although of the dozens of sunfish I have caught there in the last year, this was the first redbreast so they are not too common. The predominant species in the river are longear, bluegill and green.
